Frisky

Frisky

Frisky was a kitten
with a head much too big,
For his small little body
and his tail like a twig.
Frisky had four little legs
too short for his size,
and six toes on each foot
where others had five.
Frisky pranced through the house
with his big head held high,
he was proud of the kitten
that lived deep inside.
Deep down inside
Frisky felt like a lion,
that could do most things
if he just kept on trying.
Tommy loved Frisky
with all of his heart,
he always loved Frisky
right from the start.
Frisky's brothers and sisters
were bigger than he
from their teasing and joking
he wished to was free.
Their tails were all fluffy
as they waved side to side,
but they were not very nice
deep down inside.
Tommy could tell
that he picked a real winner
as he stroked Frisky's head
and gave him his dinner
Frisky loved playing
with all kinds of things,
like socks that he found
or big balls of string
Frisky would jump
on his big ball of string
And tumble around
with six claws dug in
Tommy would laugh
at such a silly site,
Then go to his bed
and hug Frisky all night.
Early next morning
the birds started to sing,
but not the woodpecker
rap-tap-taping.
Frisky's eyes popped open
when his ears heard the sound,
with his large ears raised up
he looked all around.
He jumped from the bed
and on to the floor,
crossing the bedroom
he made for the door.
Frisky came to a stop
at the top of the stairs
with wonder looked down
but managed his fears
With his short little leg
he stretched for the stair just below,
When his big heavy head
caused him to roll.
Frisky curled himself
in a tight little ball,
When the rolling had stopped
he was down in the hall.
That went real well
he said with some pride,
I’m smart and I’m brave
deep down inside.
He stood up ad shook
each little paw
when in the hall mirror
a kitten he saw,
A cute little kitten
with a head much too big,
for his small little body
and his tail like a twig.
With four little legs
to short for his size,
And six toes on each foot
where others had five
poor little fellow how
sad he must be
Then Frisky moved closer
and said, “He is me!”
That cannot be me;
I’m not like that inside,
I’m strong as a lion
and good looking inside.
Then a smile appeared
on that big head in the mirror,
What really matters
is the kitten in here.
