You're playing white. What's your best next move? Enjoy!

It turned out I accidentally uploaded the same picture as in my first chess puzzle post. The picture below is a new one.
@jonknight, your answer is correct of course, but for the previous post :).

Been a long time since I played, but looks to me like Queen to C2.
hmmm maybe not. a different approach may be G5.
Your first instinct was on point! Queen to G2, and then I guess you know what happens next :) (a little clue, the Queen won't make it ;)).
Here i might go with Rook ->C2 👀
I think a better move could be Rook takes Rook on e1, in case after Rook to c2 the King decides to go to f1 which would prevent us from taking the Rook on e1. It seems like there's something missing here.
Thanks for playing! :)
I was hoping to force king to e1->then rook from c2 to e2. black queen then out of play. next white move is mate?
edit: unless black queen moves to block the rook stack... but that would only delay white victory
Black king can't move to e1, unless you meant to force him to either g1 or h1. In that case, rook c2, king g1/h1, rook from e8 takes rook on e1, and that's check mate. So your move rook to c2 is the first of two moves to check mate the black, if he moves to g1/h1. In that case I totally agree of course! :)
i misspoke. g1 or f1 or h1 is correct. i should have typed f1 as i would expect that to be the choice of black, unless the queen moves to intercept which only seems to delay the inevitable by 1 move.
Maybe I should get my chessboard out! Been decades since I played. Thanks for the exercise!
I have had a long break from playing too, and have to tell you it feels great to play again! I'm glad you enjoyed the exercise :)
