Is Steemit An Empire, Or Is It Decentralized?

That seems to the hot button issue of the year so far! And I think it's time we talk about that.

It appears that anyone with a fat wallet can come into the platform, buy some Steem and start making rules about how Steemit is ran. Unless I was informed incorrectly, Steemit is SUPPOSED to be decentralized with no ruling authority. So what gives people the right to impose their will over others? They do not have that right, but they inflict damages upon others with their voting power, downvoting what they deem not worthy of your time and attention.

So who gets to decide what content you get see? Well it isn't you, if you were wondering, you don't get to make that decision. It is the people with the most Steem and VP that decide that for you, depending upon what mood they may be in at any given time. This kind of behavior is getting out of hand IMO. When the super rich start attacking the charity efforts of others, it is time to call bullshit! This pond we call Steemit, is not owned by anyone one person... it is OUR POND! We make this place what it is. Without content creators, what have we got? Nothing.

And when people are attacking the efforts of others that are helping out with charity to benefit starving orphans, it is time to draw the line. And if you want to see this kind of behavior in action, I call your attention to the following post:

Sneaky Ninja Supports You Are H.O.P.E.

Take a look at the top votes and see for yourself.

This issue started with one person deciding on how bid bots should be ran. Changing the amount of days one can get a bid on a post, down to 3.5 days instead of 7. Where does that make sense? People can still vote on a post for the 7 day period. And some bid bot owners changed their day limits to 3.5 bending to the wishes of The Emperor, @grumpycat

And now this person downvotes posts about charities and upvotes his own comments at the same time! How is this right? It isn't right! And when you go messing about with YAH, and it's charity efforts, you are messing with peoples lives. And I spend a good deal of time and effort supporting You Are H.O.P.E. and you are messing with my charity efforts!

You can hate me if you like, but I gotta say what I feel is right here. We all have to stand up together and say no more.

The super rich on this platform are still raping the system, every damned day! What ever happened to Human Kindness? Has that trait been bred out and replaced with Greed? I am starting to think so. And before anyone goes hurling insults at me, I have never taken one cent from this platform EVER, I always give back.

Is it so wrong to want to make this world a better place? Am I wrong in this way of thinking? I surely hope not. If that be the case, than there is no HOPE for us as a species and we are doomed. This the kind of behavior will drive people away from Steemit, not bring them in.

Go ahead take your bite out of my ass if you want too, I am a small fry compared to most on this platform.

Hopefully anyone that reads this post will decide to take some action! The time for allowing bullies to rule the day is over.

Great post well worded.

Resteemed.

Thanks @michaeldavid :-) Have a great day.

I am not the most intelligent person so I will put it into simple perspective. If ten people donate time and money to construct a down park, do they own it? Should they get to decide who can use the swing set or go town the slide? It is important to understand some have put more effort into this platform and believe they have certain rights due to their emotional/financial capital into Steemit. I can say as a newbie (6weeks) this community is pretty diverse, also down votes destroy people pretty quick. So if down voting is so harmful, I would say that Steemit is not decentralized. If you disagree, respond with a rebuttal not a down vote. Always been whoever has the gold makes the rules, sounds like Steemit could be heading that way, I am hopeful things can correct.

Regardless of money... There are so many people here that are on here full time. Day in and day out. They have just as much say.

If creators of the platform were to come and say we want things to change, people would likely listen to them.

However what he is talking about is not that. This is one asshole with a wad of cash that will not even show himself purposefully hurting smaller fish in the pond to push an agenda that does not accomplish anything.

Having Humanist Anarchist sensibilities i.e. wanting to see many of today's dominance hierarchies flattened to the point they truly promote and represent meritocracies, I actually have a conceptual problem with the whole bidbot system, tbh.

My feeling is that, as it stands now, users need to use bidbots to 'gain traction', and thus spend more time and energy 'gaming the system' with bidbots than actually focusing on creating the highest quality content. Bidbots themselves are 'minor fiefdoms' very much arrived through the same thinking that brought us the corporate feudalism under which we live today.

I see planned, What’s Coming in 2018, Communities (Hivemind), which I tend to think will more readily allow for organic growth versus gaming the system.

For one thing, bidbots are a 'shotgun' approach whereas communities will allow for growth in 'depth' at first, and I suspect a more efficient way for content originators to gain traction...
