Two weeks ago someone on Reddit made a post announcing that he will be donating 5057 BTC to charity, the post can be found here. When Bitcoin was worth ~$17,500 that was around $86 million the anonymous donator had commited to giving away to charity and to this day over $15 million has been given away. The user mentioned that he has invested in BTC very early and that his goals in life are not about being mega rich even though he now has more money than he can spend and that's why he wanted to make a change in the world and donate it and is accepting suggestions on where to direct his donations to. If you have any good suggestions in mind feel free to go to https://pineapplefund.org/ and fill in the form.
Today in a top post on r/worldnews an article made headlines with the Pineapple fund having donated $5 million to basic income to GiveDirectly, an organization that is currently running the largest basic income experiment in history across dozens of villages in rural Kenya. The Pineapple fund Reddit account posted the news on a basic income subreddit a day ago, the thread can be found here if you want to read more about it. GiveDirectly announced that they will split the money between its core model of issuing lump-sum cash transfers and the 12-year basic income experiment.
GiveDirectly has only been running it's basic income experiment for a full month and it has already showed very promising effects. The people have said that the help has been life-changing and they have noticed productivity go up by a lot.
Current donations from The Pineapple Fund
I am personally glad to see profits through cryptocurrencies by early adopters being used in this game-changing way and it will surely set for a much brighter future for all developing countries in the world. This is something that interested me the most in blockchain technology in the beginning when I was researching it - the way we can transfer value without borders and fees to re-balance the value in the world. I am very much looking forward to our own platform Steem becoming a leading technology in the aspect of charity and being able to aid people in need all over the world.
Steem already has a big role in countries with an imbalanced wage-gap even though we still are a pretty small community compared to many others.
Have you heard of this charity yet?
How do you see the Steem currency being able to change the world for the better?
Steem can and most probably will change the world especially in the developing and under developed countries.
There are a lot of unemployed educated youth in India who can benefit from steemit. The average income of an Indian is around 4.6$ per day, so if someone from India writes a post daily and he gets atleast 5$ he is already above average. The only thing stopping this is the awareness about steemit which is increasing day by day.
Same thing can be applied to other third world countries.
I'm from India too bro. And just came to know about this revolutionary idea of steeming. People all around the world will be so blessed with this noble cause of letting people do what they love and make a living with that.
I agree, with social communities around steem is opening a chamber to give light on stories from third world countries.
This is my favourite part. It incentivizes people to hone their creation abilities and pays well for people in developing countries. This quality of life increase that can come from being great at curating and producing quality content is a strong skill to develop and being paid out to do so is a great way to ease the barrier of entry into investing with Cryptocurrencies! Steem is great to foster growth in developing communities. That's what has me investing time (and soon $) into this.
That's and interesting idea you can make profits with bitcoin and try to create small bussines to support people i mean i'm from colombia and i would like in any moment use the money made by btc and alts to create a small company to plant coffee and sugar cane. Regards
@acidyo Maaaan whole lot of money! God bless the guy! I love such people. Steemit's potential for growth will help build a better world, it already has and definitely will continue to change people's lives. HODL and share the love! I will go there and suggest him to donate thousands of Steemit accounts to poor countries!
There is a prime example of how cryptocurrency can overcome many wrongs in the world. If more people with the means to do so only would (instead of hanging onto the power factor) the world would be a much better place for us all.
This is very great from The Pineapple fund. People in main stream media wont show all but will show all the other misuse of BTC.
Wow, that's so amazing. My joy is not just that he gave to charity, but that he did that through crypto currencies. This same crypto that the big banks and governments tried to stop. Very simple and ordinary people have now been empowered to change the world through crypto.
I had never heard of this organization before, but I am sure glad that they're doing what they're doing!
It is definitey a worthwhile organization to donate to.
This comment wasn't that offensive at all! :P
This is amazing! There's a lot of suffering in the world everywhere, but your donation is going to help thousands of the poorest people get the basic needs they deserve.
The average payment is $1,000 per family, or $1,100 of donations given 9-10% overhead. So this should help 5,000 families.
Very nice!
5057 BTC to charity :O
I mean this is something, thumbs up to this guy and his generosity.
I have no words for him.
I am also very glad to see, that many people also care about others not only themselves. We have 2 economies, very rich and those who live paycheck to paycheck( around 75% of US citizens ) and this is a big problem. Steemit already changes the world for the better, specially in Third World Countries. As this community becomes bigger and bigger, this will impact the world for the better even more.
To be honest that is a quite fascinating way to help people in need
Thank you to Pineapple Fund and thank you to the thousands that have contributed already.
It’s the time of the year where people go the extra mile to help those less fortunate, offering food, clothing, money, or even a warm bed in order to help out.
There are also Mannabase and Grantcoin when it comes to basic income. UBI sounds very interesting to me because it would free us to persue what we really want and not be stuck doing jobs that we may come to hate and be detrimental to our health.
I'm looking forward for the steem community to grow some more and then asses it's impact in the developing world.
Later edit: Mannabase is a rebranding of Grantcoin
It really is amazing what people with influence can and will do for the benefit of others. That is one of the reasons I get so frustrated with government. They literally WASTE billions of dollars every year. If those same dollars were left in the hands of the people charitable acts and contributions would skyrocket. Most people are more than happy and willing to give: to their communities, their churches, their neighbors, etc. It truly is one of the things I'm most looking forward to being able to do more of when these cryptocurrencies really start booming again.
We're in a very unique place on SteemIt right now and I think the sky is the limit. Five years from now I truly believe this platform will have a strong presence in almost every country on the planet and the giving of its members will be felt in profound ways all over the map. These are the kind of stories that will help inspire it. Thanks, @acidyo, for a very well-written post. Steem On!
Very cool! Keep up the good work!
Steem currency have taken off this year, attracting investment from all over the world and. An increasing number of people are becoming involved in using steem for changing the world...
nice and wonderful artcle @acidyo
The Pineapple Fund is an amazing initiative. Thanks for sharing.
As the steemit platform achieves more widespread adoption and the price of steem goes up I think more charitable goings on will occur. I think small charities and NGOs in particular have a lot to gain in investing time and effort here.
Thank for your sharing. I believe Steem will make the world better. I saw many charity project on Steemit. Steemit is not only a place where we share our story but also a place connects people on over the world. I'm looking forward good things from Steemit.
This is too good to be true:
Not matter what we have done to this world, we as humans have not failed.
I fully agree with you on it and strongly believe that Steemit can play this role in a very good way. Actually, I have seen a post here at Steemit of a homeless person who was no more homeless just because he wrote a blog here and in one of his posts, he shared the link of his gofundme campaign. Later on, he put in his bio that he was no more a homeless guy. This living example tells us a lot about the hidden potential of Steemit in terms of being a charity platform.
Excellent post @acidyo. You've been inspiring me through your posts and vision. Salute. Shared.
Steem On!
There is so much with Steem and its community. People who are behind this platform, people who are willing to put efforts to better the world.People who are willing to help other people . Efforts like this will put Steem on top.
This is incredible. I recommended Give Directly to you a couple of weeks ago! Can't really describe how great it feels to see projects being funded like this. Thanks to the Pineapple Fund and I look forward to watching this project develop into a legit proof point that can be referenced and replicated in the future!
I see this post wasn't tagged with #basicincome, so for those who would like to learn more about the idea itself that Pine has committed their largest donation to date in support of researching, feel free to check out the various posts here on Steemit about it under the hashtag, especially this UBI FAQ as it covers many commonly asked questions.
You can also learn more by visiting the Basic Income subreddit and reading many more links than the one linked to in @acidyo's post, and/or by visiting basicincome.org to read about UBI-related news like this from all over the world.
Wow, such a large amount of bitcoin. It really amazes me how crypto can put such amount of power into the hands of ordinary people. Am really grateful how crypto has made so many lives change, mine included. It has helped make people's lives much better than it met us.
trying to help is the most important thing! i just made a post for cambodian amputees and free education for children if anyone cares to check it out

Good to know that humanity will still get better.
If everybody can join hands together to impact on people's lives and put smiles on people's faces, then the world will be a better place.
I've learnt from this and I promise to make an impact on this world through giving.
Very soon, I'll start a donation to charity project on steemit
I haven't heard of it yet but @ejemai is doing amazing work here on steemit.
See how I am using Steemit to develop my community by building Accelerator Hubs with FREE WiFi and Electricity.| Hub number 2 in progress.
Crypto will change the world.
I am a homeless activist. I see potential in both the currency and the community. Here is how:
The activists I work with work at a grassroots level. While we do not eschew public help entirely, our primary focus is on networking to provide immediate assistance and skip the normal bureaucratic channels. A perfect example is recently when a generator failed for a camp that is being maintained, a plea was put out, and the generator was replaced in a matter of hours, most importantly before darkness hit and the need is greater.
As we learn and grow in understanding how to utilize these channels, we will be able to provide both the networking to get the word out, and the financial resources to meet the needs where they are, and compassion can work directly, which is where it is generally most efficient.
Donations are always the right thing. We needs to be human and spiritual.
5057 BTC must be the guy who created block chain ;). I hope this encourages other block chain entrepreneurs to start donating and help the needy.
It was a very risky time to invest in bitcoin. even so it is good money in donations
very good post,,,,,it will inspire more people to donation.
@resteem
This is the new way and the future to be involved in charities, gifts...
Great post!
nice writing bro i like ur writing styl 😍😍😍
The best way to express our goodness and gratitude is by giving back to charity.
Keep up the good work
Not everyone can come out victorious in the battle with greed.
wow wonderful work.fully support it....this kind man will bring changes ...
Thanks for the post.
I'm a poor boy, but who gave me, it was very good because Kenya is a poor country. @acidyo
I think he would the world more of a favor by using that 5 million to buy Steem instead, but maybe that's my self-serving greed. I think Steem will do more to change the world than a basic income.
nice 1 keep it up broo... 😊😊😊 @Resteemed
I'm really glad to hear that people donate to charity fonds thanks to their profits in Cryptospace.
Since it's global you can basically help people all around the world.
And give them another hope to pull their life together.
hey, no I have never heard about it, thanks but now I know :) Steem people could make their own donation. One project that is only doing donations for this kind of charity that you mentioned. After Steemit is going bigger, every steemian could give something away to donate in one of these. Then everyone could help a bit, even small steemians. The project "boss" have to collect it and to transfer it to a donation organisation. That was just an example. Greetings Lena
Wow great post, so huge amounts as charity .It's all possible due to crypto currency. Unbelievable but very true. If I get the little amount I will definitely make it very wise use, as I am a teacher in a very backward and flood effected areas, I have will to do something for the victims but have no financial supports. Thanks for sharing such a valuable lesson, I am happy for the people who will be benefited from the greatest work of the noble man. Wish you a very happy time friend happy steeming.
The great thing about the crypto community is how giving the majority seem to be. I think most people want a change from all the competition and the rat race of getting ahead. This is a truly amazing contribution, thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing an inspiring post such as this.
I think I have heard about Pineapple Fund and their donations, but I still don't know much about them. It is a very nice thing they are doing, this restores the hope in humanity of many, including me :)
I have just checked and I have resteemed a post addresing the same charity organisation a few days ago, so yep, have heard of it and it is nice to see the good in people these times. It is not all about greed even though some people seem to not understand this...
@acidyo
Wow, that is so amazing, truly inspirational.
stay blessed.
Nice post! Glad to to hear that people donate to charity! I hope for more of this!
This is incredible, simply awesome. We, the people can make this planet a better place to live if our governments aren't doing anything for us.
