I just wanted to give everyone a reminder that there are 3 days left to enter my Prepper Cook-Off Challenge. It is a unique and interesting challenge that is for both preppers and food enthusiasts. Part luck and part skill, it will test your ability to make gourmet food with only long-term storable ingredients.
Prize Pool
Currently the prize pool is 20 SBI (Steem Basic Income). 10 to first place, 7 to second place, and 3 to third place. Additionally, I will up vote all valid entries at 100%. I may also sweeten the pot a little depending on the final number of quality entries I receive.
What is @steembasicincome?
It is a program where you sponsor people by buying them shares. Both the sponsor and the sponsored get a share(s) which provide(s) continued up votes to member content. I feel that it is a great way to support your favorite authors even if you don't have the SP or time to always up vote them.

Want another opportunity to earn SBI?
@revisesociology is running a very simple challenge where you can earn 2 SBI for a well thought out comment. As of now his challenge is open ended but when he gets a few entries he may decide to close it, so don't delay. I was going to enter myself but I want someone that has few or no SBI to win it.
Back to the Prepper Cook-Off Challenge - The Scenario
In the near future, a massive EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) from the sun has knocked out the electrical grid and the world has devolved into chaos. Being a Steemian, you and your group are more prepared than most but after many months hunkered down you are nearly out of food and are forced to scavenge the nearby buildings for supplies.
Source
You are facing a dire scene with almost every building already ransacked and picked clean of food. You persist in your search and are eventually rewarded. Going through the cupboards of one kitchen you find 2 items that fell behind a lazy Suzan and were missed by previous scavengers. Not much, but you also have 1 item and some spices left at your secret lair. You must now combine these items into a meal that won't cause you and your fellow survivors to gag or die of heartburn.
it feels very fast rotating, no more 3 days I will know who is the best in the matter of cooking, and I will wait for the announcement, do not forget to let us know the end result
I will 😉
every one of us have the expertise of each, to find who has the skills needed to the expertise, I'm glad you @canadianrenegade have the perfect skills to find steemian friends who are experts in cooking
You don't. Have to be an expert to participate in this challenge. It probably helps though!
To roll the dice (this is just for example) just put: @rolltwodice in your comment!
ok, i will come, give me the choice
@rolltwodice

How to roll the dice @canadianrenegade?, is it possible to participate if I dont have any of mentioning staff in my storage?. I would love to participate on this challenge and add some more value for this great community
What dry or canned ingredients do you have? If you have a bunch maybe I can come up with a list.
Also I may do an international version of this contest in the future. So even if you aren't able to participate this time you should be able to next time.

I have rice, sardines, instant noodle, some dried herbs, no canned coconut milk (normally we use fresh). I think it would be better for me to participate next time. I have made jungle cook. and will post it later....I dont have laptop anymore since last night the charger was broken and I need to buy new charger. it take to slow to my mobile to open steemit.com. Best Regars @canadianrenegade
Thanks for the reply and some of the ingredients you have available. That is unfortunate about the laptop charger.
I'll be making my dish today and I'm feeling pretty good about it. It might even taste good!
That was a great entry!
Hey @canadianrenegade! Nice to officially meet you today...
If you don't mind me asking, what part of the country are you in?
I'm in Ontario...about 2.5 hours east of Toronto or 3 hours west of Ottawa.
Hi! Nice to officially meet you too. If ever you feel like you're having 2 different conversations it's because I (Aimee)
hijackalso use Matthew's account to read, comment, and occasionally guest post. 😜 Our twins keep me pretty busy, which is why I don't have an account of my own just yet. We are currently in Edmonton, Alberta but will be moving about an hour south west of the city this fall. -AimeeCool! It's a pleasure to meet both you and Mathew. @knarly327 doesn't post very much but he helps me quite a bit (behind the scenes) with my posting efforts. 3 years ago, we right sized our living situation and have been renovating an 850 square foot home that we plan to add solar and wind power to. I'm not sure that we will be completely off-grid but we want the flexibility. We are preppers too...just not fanatical about it. We do a lot of preserving of our own food...so use a big-ass pressure canner to do these jobs because with that level of canner, you can safely preserve most foods, including meat.
I have 2 sisters (one of which is on Steemit already) @purplemagic. Both sisters have a set of twins. Runs in our family...when my other sister had her set, they were the 16th set of fraternals on my Mother's side.
Crazy!!! Don't you worry Aimee, it will get easier as your twins get older...so nice to meet your family.
Rebecca
Wow! We have so much in common. Well we were living in a tiny 200sq ft house that we built ourselves but have moved in with my parents while will build a less tiny house. With the twins getting mobile and the long winter, our space was just too tiny. I am so glad to finally see green grass and budding trees. We are planning to make the new house off-grid capable too. Matt has a huge pressure canner that I have only used once but am hoping to put into production here soon. Reading about everyone's homesteading adventures on Steemit is lighting a fire under my butt.
Sixteen sets of twins?! Wow! Thanks for the words of encouragement. Some days are harder than others but one thing is for sure, I love them a whole lot! They're amazingly smart and active babies! -Aimee
Hey! @mosic here.. checking in on the results? I am not sure if I missed them being shown somewhere else? There are many amazing entries here! Thank you to all that contributed!
Hey @mosic sorry for the delay on the results. Unfortunately, we're not able to Steem until the twins are asleep so we are a little behind. We'll be getting the results out today but probably not until late. Stay tuned! -Aimee
Hey wanted to apologize I did not get to make my meal. I did manage to get the ingredients together but it's too late by the time I remembered the deadline. :( The entries look great I like the write-ups people did.
Thats OK, thanks for letting me know. There will be more Prepper Cook-Off challenges so you will have other chances to submit an entry if you want.
I know that this competition is done, but I may see if I can do it anyway for the fun of it!
BTW, Part of my prepping is a 50,000 acre lake by my prepping property for fish. Also, if I can't last for a year on storage, I did something wrong. The large pressure canners are important for storing food when it becomes available. Tattler lids are also a great add for preserving food since they are reusable. I am fermenting, to preserve some of the food too.
It sounds like you are in a good location and well prepared. I have a large canner also but have not yet tried any tattler lids.
I will be running another cook-off challenge in the next few weeks so if you want to get in on it that would be great!
Still buying the tattler lids (only a couple of gross so far) but they are plastic with a reusable rubber seal. The only strange part is they check for seal a little differently. once they cool off, Instead of checking for a drawn down seal dome, you try to rotate the lid. If it is sealed it will not turn. If it turns, reprocess it! I will use standard lids on long run veggies, for possible barter material.
I am glad you have the Big Canner, they are a useful tool! I will have a big one running here shortly to begin the homeless meal meat preparation. I can cook 20 pounds of chicken in one batch. I will cook the penne pasta in a 24 quart stock pot, and the spaghetti in a 20 quart pot. Tomorrow should be Fun, LOL! :)
Have to cook the pasta tomorrow, not enough refrigerator space! :(
Who do you cook the homeless meal for? It sounds like noble work.
We feed the people who live under the bridges. The ones really at risk. We fed 364 today, plus one pit bull
That's awesome! When we get the homestead up and running, one of the things I want to do is plant extra food to donate to the food bank. Stuff like squash that keeps for a long time without refrigeration. I thought about meat too but that gets tricky because it needs to be properly inspected even if it is donated and not sold.
If you plant a macaroni and cheese bush, you will be very popular, LOL. We had about 70 gallons of hot food, and they ate it all. They are good people, in a bad spot. Such a blessing. I'd do it more often, but I am not tough enough.... We put 7 dozen eggs in the salad, but it could have used more.
On the meat, most states gave a wild game donation program. Hunt, and donate, no inspection needed. Here it is open season on wild pigs.
Thank you very nice postings, for such a project.
