Hey @jesta,
How are you planning to moderate the creation of new forums? For example, right now there are two introduce-yourself forums on chainBB:
I feel like this is just creating unnecessary noise. Do you've yet a "Forum's creation rules" document? I think that's going to be needed. In my opinion, a forum should be open for creation if:
- There's no equal forum yet;
No need to have duplicate forums. I do agree that there are instances where a duplicate could be needed, for example, if the forum owner of the first forum became inactive (reddit does this with subreddits). Hence my #2 suggestion:
- If a forum owner has been inactive for X weeks/months, then the forum is available for the taking; Fees apply.
What constitutes being inactive here? I would say if one doesn't make any comments and/or posts for the X week/months, then one is inactive in the steem community.
What do you think? I'm sorry if you've already provided info regarding this. I searched but couldn't find anything. If you did, please link me!
People are free to create duplicate forums and compete IMHO. I think the problem right now boils down to the way you discover new forums. Right now it's just one big alphabetical list - but that will change soon enough and the best performing forums will be shown.
I don't want to prevent duplicates simply because we may end up with a situation where someone doesn't like how someone else is moderating, so they want to try to do it better.
As for inactive forums - I do agree, though I'm not sure what the terms of that might be. Very likely a problem to solve next year though when we actually have things we'd consider "inactive" :)
Good things to think about though!
Good points, sounds good!
