First Post Using Chainbb.com - Yes, I'm REALLY late to this party.

in #chainbb-general8 years ago (edited)

So I've seen it talked about for the past couple of months, but never actually looked close enough at it to see what ChainBB.com really was.

So far, I love it. This form factor has a very familiar experience to it. I'm pretty sure I know a lot of people - especially the newer members - who I could see preferring it to the original steemit.com site.

I like how profiles are laid out, also.

The "Create a new Post" page seems fairly user friendly. I would, however, like to see a Markdown formatting bar for easier formatting. This seems to be one of the things that's been missing from the overall Steemit experience. There's one on the Steemit.com site, but it's incomplete. Markdown is capable of so much more than many of the formatting toolbars I've seen, and that could open a large door for the community. If chainbb.com could adopt something like that (and the devs may already be, I don't know), I think that would seal my vote for this as my go-to GUI for the Steem blockchain.

My favorite thing about it so far, however, is the fact that I can scroll ALL the way back to my very first post from July 16 last year. On Steemit.com, I can only scroll as far back as 6 months. I've heard this issue isn't the same for everyone.

The whole site feels like old-school phpBB, which I love. Things are laid out in a much more comprehensive and categorized manner. As @giftedgaia and I have mentioned on the podcast in the past, we used to frequent (and I used to moderate/admin) a phpBB site for the local electronic music scene in our area for the span of about 8 years. We finally had to lay it to rest due to lack of traffic because of bigger social media sites like Myspace and Facebook.

I'm going to set this as my homepage for a little while and see if it sticks. I may be giving another review after some time with it. In the meantime, however, so far so good. :)

Great job, @jesta. I can't believe it took me 2 months to get here.

welcome to chainbb!!

very nice designed platform, sure you will love this!

So far so good 😊

THANKS FOR YOUR POST

Never too late to join a party ;)!

Welcome to Chainbb, been using it almost from the beginning a great alternative for those who prefer BB's.. the voting power slider for all including minnows are also a positive and Jesta's upvotes don't hurt the experience either :)

Congratulation, how it look like ?

The best thing is that here, you have control over the voting power

Welcome to the party!

As a new user, I won't deny that jesta's upvotes surely help and that they're the reason I heard about chainBB in the first place. However, I definitely started enjoying the old-school forum style. It's also really cool to see how the raw data from the blochain can be presented in such different ways.

Welcome to Chainbb!

(Edit) My bad, posted my reply to winstonw erroneously to you, can happen if not careful on chain, well, agree with the welcome, and throwing in a few cents to you :)

I use it a lot as I can see both new posts and what is being most discussed - there is no trending list based on earnings, just comments.

The one feature I haven't been able to find there - which, to me, would make it the most like a phpBB forum - is the "View Posts Since Last Visit" link.

Yes, that would make navigating faster. Any suggestions like that, go to the chainBB Suggestions forum - https://beta.chainbb.com/forum/chainbb-suggestions - and add a new topic. @jesta will reply :-)

I Love ChainBB. It easy to navigate through the platform.
You are welcome to ChainBB

So wait, @winstonwolfe does that mean there is no markdown available on chainBB?....I'm basically lost trying to make a post without it.

Oh yeah, Markdown is definitely there. I just want all the markdown options in a user-friendly toolbar.

Thanks brother!

this is WAY more my jam as far as an interface goes.

My only gripe thus far is that there's no access to the wallet that I can see.

seems like kind of a pretty sizable oversight.

This sounds very interesting. Going to check it out later today, in detail.

Upvoted!

Thanks for the tip. I may have to give it a try!

I'll check it out thanks for the heads up

Thanks will give it a try :)

I think you'll like it here. I find it very easy to navigate

Congratulation u're lucky ;)

Pretty interesting. I'll have to check it out.

Sounds interesting. Will check it out. Thanks for sharing.

I also going to check this site, thanks for this info. @winstonwolfe

I really have to try this!, i don't know why i haven't yet...

So...I'm confused, there's ANOTHER STEEMIT site?

It's the same blockchain information, just in different clothes. That's the great thing about it being open source, people can make stuff that works on it. This may not be the best analogy, but think of the Steem blockchain like your iPhone, and think of Steemit.com, Busy.org, ChainBB.com all as if they are different apps that work on that iPhone (the Steem blockchain), each one having their own characteristics to enhance the experience of using it. All 3 websites provide much of the same information, but Busy and ChainBB have other features Steemit.com itself does not have...such as private messaging, easy and effective search function, etc.

It's all eggs, it just depends on how you like them served.

So, if I am understanding this correctly, you are able to earn SBD and STEEM on there as well. Is it linked to Steemit itself? With the same wallet addys and keys? Like could I link the two with my keys? Since it's the same chain...you know like transferring BTC wallets? I like my eggs slightly over easy with a tiny pat of butter, on top of crispy hashbrowns, layered with bacon, and covered in CHEESE.

It's not a different wallet, it's the same one. The site is just the user interface, the shell that goes over it. But since it's open source, developers can create multiple interfaces to give you a choice. And actually, on ChainBB, I'm not seeing access to my wallet. I can see basic profile info, but that's about it. However, when a payout occurs and gives me rewards to claim, it does give a notification and the ability to claim them, which is cool. But it literally is the very same Steemit, just being accessed with a different-looking website. If you sign into ChainBB.com or Busy.org and look around, you'll see all the same posts and replies.

Cool, thanks bro!

" However, when a payout occurs and gives me rewards to claim, it does give a notification and the ability to claim them, which is cool"

Since i signed into my chainBB using my steemit details. Do the rewards I claim be deposited into my steemit wallet. Since ChainBB doesn't officially have a wallet. If not how do i use the rewards claimed.

It's all tied together. When you claim them on chainbb or on busy.org, it's the same as claiming the rewards on Steemit.com. It goes to your Steemit wallet.

Thanks a lot!

What exactly is Chainbb, is it a steemit alternative?

Same site, different clothes. Steemit.com is just one version of a site you can use with the Steem blockchain. Busy.org and ChainBB.com show all the same posts and comments as Steemit.com, they're just different ways of experiencing and operating Steemit. They both use all the same sign-in info as Steemit.com, so you don't have to sign up for anything.

Well, welcome here and then good luck !!

I guess I'll have to check it out, see which one I prefer,

Thank you for this, at the beggining of the journey and I guess another new thing to learn at least I found this now, many thanks

Thanks for this Winston, I didn't really get it till now. I've just been browsing for the last couple of days. What I like about it, is the fact that I can see what percentage of their votes people have been giving me.

It's quite surprising and eye-opening!

I don't get the scroll back problem on Steemit, didn't realise there was one!

"The whole site feels like old-school phpBB, which I love. Things are laid out in a much more comprehensive and categorized manner."

I was thinking exactly the same thing.
