A short note on Censorship and Google exposé

in #censorship5 years ago

If those three billionaires or the government decides that CNN, which has a large fan following, has been spreading conspiracy theories about the president, and hence need to be censored, would you agree with that?
If those three billionaires happen to study economics and find out that communism/socialism cannot work and the arguments that some of the socialists have been making have already been proven to be wrong over and over again over the course of modern history, so democrats need to be censored, would you agree with that?
I guess you wouldn’t. So, the same goes with Alex Jones. He may not be likable, but he’s certainly not the worst guy out there on the internet according to everyone, because that’s subjective. You shouldn’t let anyone decide who gets to speak what, because a day might come when those three billionaires dislike your speech, no matter what you’re saying, and then you wouldn’t be in a position to resist.

A similar argument holds for the recent google expose. What’s the point of giving every citizen a right to vote, if google is the one deciding who gets elected? This kind of suppression of opposing voices has only previously been witnessed in the Soviet Union, let’s say, in Yugoslavia, where despite having elections, the communists won a landslide victory and they achieved it by suppressing opposing voices and putting the outspoken ones in prison. Google is now undermining democracy.
