RUBBER
What is made out of rubber?
Natural rubber is made from a runny, milky white liquid called latex that oozes from certain plants when you cut into them. (Common dandelions, for example, produce latex; if you snap off their stems, you can see the latex dripping out from them.
Is the rubber a plastic?
Although both are polymers, plastic and rubber differ because: 1. Rubber can be considered elastomers, and that's why when compared to plastics, they are naturally more elastic. Synthetic rubber is derived from crude oil, whereas synthetic plastic is made of petroleum and natural gas.
Is polyisoprene a natural rubber?
Depending on its molecular structure, polyisoprene can be a resilient, elastic polymer (elastomer), as in the case of natural rubber and isoprene rubber, or a tough, leathery resin, as in the case of natural and synthetic balata or gutta-percha.
How is rubber extracted?
Rubber tapping is the process by which the latex is collected from a rubber tree. An incision is made in the tree's bark, which cuts through the latex vessels, from which the product then flows.
