Hakosuka GTR- A JDM masterpiece

in #cars7 years ago

We were fortunate enough to witness the concourse restoration of a JDM legend this year. The standard of work delivered by the GTR shop on this build was nothing short of perfection.

What really makes this car special aside from the attention to detail is the legendary S20 Engine. Originally designed by the Motorsport engineering department at Prince as a race Engine this really is the heart and soul of the GTR. It may not have a great deal of power by modern standards but the mechanical symphony from under the bonnet delivers something that is so rare in this day and age...

Having seen the car built from the ground up it shows the attention to detail in design was excellent! One thing that really stood out was the centre mounted fuel tank over the rear axle positioned with care to keep a neutral balance and weight distribution, this was only one detail of many.

It’s sad to say it’s highly unlikely this car will see road use. With an estimated value of £250k and a concourse restoration it is highly likely this will sit amongst some other very special vehicles in this private owners collection.
Fortunately we managed to capture this all on video which can be seen here...

HAAAAAAAAkozuka!!

excellent coverage of the restoration, well done!

Thankyou glad you enjoyed it!

Cool car, the power to weight ratio must be pretty respectable for it’s age, 160hp weighs about 1100kg right? The value of these is incredible! 😳

Yes certainly on the power front. I’m not sure on the weight but it could possibly even be lighter.
They are a well balanced car which really has a character that is missing in so many modern cars!

Yeah, with regards to weight, wikipedia stated it was less than 2500lbs and I found this: http://forums.nicoclub.com/hakosuka-dimensions-weight-t186739.html
I would of guessed less than 1000kg, so 2200lbs. Ford cars from the same era, Escort MK1, Cortina MK2 are extremely light. Maybe the Hako engine and drive train were heavier than Fords, the engine is certainly physically bigger than a 1600 X-flow.

You are absolutely correct the Engine weighs in at 199kg and the gearbox is a 5 speed rather than 4. That would make some sense

The car looks absolutely stunning. Been a fan of your content on YouTube, great seeing you here! Don't hesitate to glance through my profile, hope to post more about my Skyline soon :)

I love the Hakosuka! One Japanese national near me in Misawa owns one, but he swapped a RB26DETT in it! It's absolutely beautiful.
