Been a while
Sorry it's been a while, I have been a busy boy.
Corolla intro wrap up
Left off somewhere around DUI number 1. Long story short, from 2010 to 2016 I kept her running and daily drove her till April 2015.
Early April 2015 I bought a 1999 Accord to drive daily to work.
Within a year I got DUI number 2, stopped drinking, and decided to put more effort into the Rolla.
The Swap
First up was the tired old 3 speed auto transmission. Craigslist, eBay, rockauto.com, and Pick'n'pulls became my best friends.
About $1,200(US) later I had:
- Qty 2 used Toyota t40 transmissions
- used 3tc to T Bell housing
- new master cylinder
- new slave cylinder
- custom hydraulic hose
- used clutch pedal assembly
- used 82 Corolla 4 door sedan manual transmission drive shaft
- new 5 speed Exedy clutch kit
- used manual transmission crossmember
- new manual transmission mount
- new clutch fork
Yanked the Automatic. Also ripped out the carpet and sound dampening
Installed manual with new mount and correct crossmember
Installed clutch master cylinder and custom hydraulic line
New clutch slave cylinder (covered in mud), you can barely see the top of the hose going to the slave.
Pretty much not having computers controlling everything made this swap extremely simple.
Remove auto trans, install manual trans, rig up pedal and plumbing. Sorry for lack of pictures. Went with an Exedy 5 speed clutch kit (even though its a 4 speed gearbox). Used 5 speed flywheel that was resurfaced at a machine shop.
Slapped it all in.
Go to fire her up and she cranks, but no fire...
That will take us to the carb and a couple of other little mods I knocked out.
Shouldn't take write up that post, it is mostly pictures.
As of right now, the cars running well. Did two Rallycross races (one at the end of April, one at the end of May).
Happy to say I am in 2nd place in prepaired rwd class in Northern California.
AND
The Star Wars Conspiracy by Isaac Weishaup was an interesting look at the similarities of Star Wars and occult beliefs and practices.
Right now I am reading another book of his The Dark Path, and it's pretty trippy.
Take care - Rusty
