Biodegradable vehicle?

in #cars7 years ago

Students from Netherlands created first electric biodegradable vehicle made of a resin derived from sugar beets.

It is made from sugar, can carry 4 passengers and can achieve speed of a whooping 80 km/h. It is biodegradable and it's inventors say, that it could be a next step in environment-friendly motoring.

Plastic, made from sugar beet is transformed into honeycomb core and placed between two sheets made of flax. Its lightweight frame has a similar strength-weight ratio to fiberglass. Lina is powered by two DC motors, taking energy from Lithium-ion batteries.

The big drawback with using alternative materials like this is, that in case of an accident, the material will not bend like traditional steel, but break. Lina will be tested later this year, once given a green light from the Netherlands Vehicle Authority.

I think it's a great idea, at least you can have a snack while stuck in the traffic jam :). What do you think about it?

I think this is really cool, and the development of new material is something I am very interested in as I studied industrial design before. I guess it is just a question of time before people will say " do you remember back in the days when everything was made of plastic, what were people thinking"?

it is unreall goodd ! Well thought out! Its wonderfull!)

Excellent, towards that direction must the world go towards sustainability.

Sure, but all the extra energy used during the production and the pollution created for manufacturing batteries or electricity is not negligible.

It looks cool
would love to ride one 1 them
