Is the future electric cars?

in #cars7 years ago

I own a BMW 325D a 3 litre diesel and I love it but nowadays theres a lot of talk about pollution and so theres more incentives to move over to electric cars such as the Tesla roadster:

0-60 in 1.9s thats a great incentive :D

Yes its fast and green but can it give you that feel that an engine powered car gives you? I don't think so
I just hope in the future we still have petrol and diesel cars that will will be used by car enthusiasts

so what do you guys think will electric cars take over?

Sort:

I guess a Tesla beats a 3 series BMW in most aspects. But sure, there are still obstacles to master for the current electric cars.
Most of all, the battery issue. But beyond the cars itself, the lack of infrastucture for electric cars. Like not enough recharging points.
Also there is the question, what would actually happen if all cars were electric. The amount of electricity needed for that would be astronomical. Without new additional sources it is not possible to do that. And those sources should be green, of course, else the whole thing wouldn't make any sense.
Still, I assume the combustion engine will be replaced by something in the future.

Great points! It would get even more interesting if we found breakthroughs into biofuels

Well, it seems biofuel is a dead end road, too. We can't use all our land to produce fuel for cars, instead of producing food. So it would lead to increased deforestation - as it happens already in some countries. That is certainly not desireable.
A better system could be fuel cells driven by hydrogen. Which is basically also a electric system. Hydrogen is produced with electricity and then turned into electricity again in the car. That doesn't require batteries and its fast to refill the tank.
But hydrogen can be pretty dodgy stuff, if something goes wrong.

dude at least try to make your posts believable. you own a car that expensive? sell it, buy it shit car invest your money. conclusion? you dont own that car.

I don't own a Tesla, I actually own a 2007 BMW 325D coupe. I just wanted to know other peoples view on electric cars taking over our normal petrol and diesel engines.

whats not good about it? wow so you might lose a bit of power. but you don't pollute the planet and start wars over a dwindling resource. and unless its an ancient bmw, its still worth quite a lot of money. solar and battery operated cars are already a thing. cars can and should be self sustaining vehicles, and will if we put a little more research into how

I would kick the arse of his BMW in every way.

At the moment range, recharging points and not to forget the dreaded wait to recharge your car. But forget the technical aspects some people own cars because its one of their hobbies theres more to cars than just being used to get you from point A to B.

you missed my point. hunting is a hobby. some people do it for the sport. not to stay alive for food. but for pleasure. at the cost of animals lives. my opinion of cars is similar. it's a pleasure sport that harms other living beings, unless you are simply keeping the cars for show or as collector items.

at the moment, electric cars are not popular because the efficiency isnt great. why? not enough money behind research. not enough demand and higher costs. and, because the auto industry puts lobbyists in congress to keep their concern vital. but from an environmental standpoint, this is how the world needs to go because petrol cars are unsustainable.

it isnt down to what you guys prefer, its down to what the world needs. and im sure with enough research and design, some tech will be invented which out performs what we have now. the future is a sustainable car model, whether its electric, solar, or battery operated. unless you think wars over oil are worth fighting until all resources are depleted.

Electric cars will take over.

It does look like it will in the future but I guess it will take time!
