The "Type II" T3 series of the well-known VW-Bus, VW Transporter or Vanagon series combined a rear engine and the still-classic looks of the earlier VW T2 vans or so-called Hippie vans with the extended carrying capacity of a maturing commercial vehicle. Available in far more countries than today's vehicles -- which have become a victim of over-regulated markets, stringent "compliance" requirements, and national protectionism as demonstrated in the U. S. "EPA scandal" where a great number of manufacturers including domestic American ones have been guilty of "emissions cheating" but, so far, only VW have been singled out and indicted -- the T3 series has been dubbed the most popular 1-ton mini transporter in the world.
Here's an image of a vintage T3 still in use today. Brings back memories to so many people...
In second-hand markets, the T3 is a sought-after vehicle which commands good prices in many countries today. Its popularity goes far beyond touring drivers, surfers, and windsurfers. Both the rear-axle driven and the 4WD versions are in high demand.
