During Press Days at the 2018 Detroit NAIAS, on Sunday, January 14, 2018 Ford Motor Co. unveiled the 50th Anniversary Mustang Bullitt, celebrating the 1968 Movie Classic “Bullitt” where Steve McQueen chased down two hitmen through the hilly / rolling streets of San Francisco.
The Mustang shown in the film was a dark Green GT Fastback, in a 10-minute long chase scene that set new standards in film making.
In actuality there were two identical 1968 Model Mustang GT Fastbacks used for the filming, and it was only recent that both of them were found. One of them was on the stage at the January 14, 2018 unveiling of the new 50th Anniversary Model, where both the original and new Mustang Bullitt stood side-by-side.
The new 50th Anniversary Mustang Bullitt will feature a 5.0L V8 engine that packs at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft of torque and tops out at 163 mph. Exterior color choices will be either Dark Highland Green or Shadow Black, and will come with a manual transmission that features a white cue ball shift knob, consistent with the original shift knob featured in the movie.
An active valve performance exhaust system will be standard with new Black NitroPlate exhaust tips, and returned to give the car a signature burble, as well as a new Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold for optimal performance.
Other features that pay tribute to the vehicle Steve McQueen drove are subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels, red painted Brembo brakes, and a unique black front grille. Inside and out, the vehicle uses minimal badging.
The leather-trimmed interior features unique green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, center console, and seats.
Aside from the two exterior paint choices, Mustang Bullitt buyers will be limited to only three factory-installed options including:
• Bullitt Electronics Package (Navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded sound system, and BLIS)
• MagneRide semi-active suspension system.
• RECARO black leather-trimmed seats
