Nothing puts things in perspective like getting a frantic call from your wife as she screams that the kids got hit by a bus. She was just leaving work and was an hour away. Me being a few minutes away, I rushed over to tend to the situation.
Our daughter Clover had gone to pick up her brother Kalel from school and upon turning, Car meet bus. Luckily nobody at all was hurt outside of being a bit banged up. Clover was hysterical and basically in shock while her younger brother had his arm around her trying to console as best he could. That was what I saw when I got there which made me really proud. Oh, and the fire trucks, police cars, ambulance, dozens of gawking onlookers, and the hundreds of cars rubbernecking to get a glimpse of the crushed soda can that used to be an automobile.
I will say the professionals were just that. Professional and awesome. The superintendent of the schools was there and went across the street to the store to get the kids bottles of water. The EMT who I believe was named Mike was also awesome as he pulled over in his own truck to assist and let the kids sit on the back while things got sorted. That is the best of my town and humanity in general...and I’m humbled and forever grateful to those who helped and made my kids feel the slightest bit of ok in that terrifying time for them. Thank you all.
For now, the kids will hopefully get a good nights sleep. I’ll probably stare at the ceiling for a while, thanking our lucky stars that a crushed car is the worst thing that happened today.

Luck was certainly on their side. They say cars these days aren't build like they used to be, but looking at that wreck, you'd have to say the crumple zones did exactly what they are designed to do and absorb the impact whilst protecting the internal capsule where the kids were sitting.

Scary stuff mate, but glad to hear there was no damage...Well, not to the kids anyway. The car looks a bit second hand...Maybe a nice opportunity to get that Mclaren P1 you've always wanted?

Wow. I hope everyone gets some rest and recovery to get over the shock and realization of what happened, and then can deal with the mundane matter of replacing a car as smoothly as possible!

Good to hear everyone is okay. Cars can be replaced. My kids have started driving and I'm going to be a bit nervous when they go out on their own.

I've been in crashes myself in the past and it's always a shock. Glad everybody is OK which is always the main thing in these situations.

Apparently the reason a lot of cArs look like wrecks these days but people walk out fine is cause this is how cars are now designed, for the outer frame to just crumple under impact. Glad they are safe!
Yeah. The car did it’s job well. It took the brunt of the impact and took care of the cargo inside. Kinda weird seeing all the airbags deployed and all that. Thx so much. Me too. Lol
