This month, Bring A Trailer, auction house for vintage and classic cars, offered for sale this beautiful 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS, so 80's and the perfect accessory for a Thomas Magnum disguise for this Halloween. I started to grow a moustache 😀.
Showing only 21,000 miles and sold for $US 67,500, it was a great deal to have a beautiful car in your garage. A classic design of the 70's and 80's.
History of Ferrari 308 GTS
The Ferrari 308 GTB / GTS was produced between 1975 and 1985 in replacement of the Dino 245 GT. The Pininfarina designed Ferrari with Scaglietti-built steel bodywork was presented at Paris Motor Show in 1975.
This model has a special history related to the Canadian Formula One driver, Gilles Villeneuve. At the age of 27, he was engaged in 1977 for the last two races by the Scuderia, the same year of Targa topped 308 GTS was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The 308 GTS was delivered to him with special upgrade like an uprated clutch in order to commute between Monaco and the Ferrari factory in Maranello.
Just a few words about Gilles Villeneuve :
🏎 67 Grand Prix,
🏎 101 points scored,
🏎 6 wins...
< At Imola, 1979
Specification
The Ferrari 308 GTS is equipped with a carbureted 3.0-liter V8 engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox producing 237 hp.
This model is finished in Rosso Chiaro over tan leather. As it was sold for the US market, the equipment includes the US bumpers and side markers with a black removable top panel.
The interior is beautiful with this Connolly leather and with the dashboard and its Veglia gauges (speedometer, tachometer...). That's what I miss the most in today's car interiors. The touch screen in the center is cool to choose your music but behind the wheel a few gauges would be perfect. But that's just my opinion 😀...

I've never been much of a Spider fan, not the insect-type either, but the 308 is nonetheless an absolutely awe-inspiring beaut! There's just something about the design that's aged so well, plus the amazing attention to detail. They don't make them like they used to, as they say.
Also, Rosso Chiaro... Now that's a brand new hue in Ferrari's 50 Shades of Red that I hadn't heard of before. I think the only thing that could be better is the Group 4 rally version of the 308, with its rally lights and racing livery. I think a Ferrari shouldn't be afraid to get dirty every now and then... :-D
The Golden Age of the rally with the group 4 then the famous group B.
It was the French pilot JC Andruet behind the wheel of the 308.
That's a neat tidbit of history! Those days really were the golden age of rallying, and one that I wish we could see again in the future, even with electric rally cars. Another wish of mine would be to see Ferrari enter rallying again, though I'm sure that's a near impossibility. Just imagine seeing a 488 rally car!
Let's love beautiful cars, they leave so quickly😍
Yep we don't see this kind of cars on the roads anymore, now the same gray shape everywhere 😀
I saw a 308 on the highway the other day. First one I've seen in a long time, in fact I can't remember seeing one on the road before. It occurred to me that even though they're not too rare, for a Ferrari, driving them is probably rare because of their age and high maintenance costs. $67K sounds like a nice price to get into a Ferrari, but the adage goes: "There's hardly a car more expensive than a cheap Ferrari."
Lucky you, it's been a long time since I've seen a 308 on the road...
Maybe it's possible to buy it as you said but the maintenance, insurance, etc must cost a lot each year.
Thanks for upvote, it's appreciated.
