"Capitalism Sucks!" Says the Guy Who Doesn't Know What Capitalism Is

in #capitalism7 years ago

Today, I saw this post on Facebook:

I've seen so many like it in my time... here's another one:

Finally, I felt prompted to make the little Venn Diagram that you see above. Almost every single person I see who criticizes capitalism proves in their critique that they have no idea what capitalism really is.

Pure capitalism is when market forces are allowed to work freely without violence, or state intervention. Many (if not most) of the criticisms I see of capitalism are actually criticisms of government. These critiques often come from the same people who want more and more government to solve their problems.

If only I could get them to see the fallacies in their statements... we might actually end up on the same team!

LOL - its the same with people who are avid "leftists" calling for Communism.

I don't think many of them have any idea what that would even mean. Especially the younger ones on fb who were cheering for Sanders.

Sadly, this is very much the norm nowadays.

I've seen the line not real communism thrown around for those regimes but this is mind boggling.

I don't remember who said this, but I heard a quote that was something like, "the battle for society will be the battle for the meaning of words."

People carry such vastly different definitions of terms. We really need to make our definitions clear before we can even think about entering a meaningful discourse.

When I say the news media actually reporting Bernie Sanders during his campaign say, "Maybe lines in Venezuela are a good thing." and his pole numbers didn't waver, I knew we had problems.

I couldn't believe he said that... though I shouldn't be surprised by anything these days.

All the responses I get from commies about how labor, rent, wages are slavery are all the same...'your vague metaphors don't work in reality and we need government to keep us all safe and fed'. "Many (if not most) of the criticisms I see of capitalism are actually criticisms of government." - Couldn't agree more!! Crony-capitalism does NOT equal free-market capitalism. The majority of problems we see with big corporations today is a direct result of government action. W/o govt, the corp. wouldn't have been able to do what they did.

I think a lot of it is just cognitive bias and desperation in trying to justify their views. I have to think that deep down they know they're wrong. But acknowledging it would mean they lose their place among all their communist friends and they don't get to be "cool" anymore.

I can't complain. I do enjoy debating people when they're wrong. They make it so easy.

Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a drug!

very well said. it is much crazier in my place,
"fuck capitalism, fuck china, fuck america, fuck comunist" while they have little understanding what they are really trying to say. LOL
