While I was driving yesterday some guy on the radio started running his mouth about how the rate of car accidents had gone up dramatically in states where marijuana had been legalized. Eventually he reported the increase to be slightly over 2%! I mean are you kidding me?!? 2%...
Assuming this is a real statistic I don't see how he can directly attribute the increase to marijuana consumption and driving. From what I understand the population increase in these states has been well over 2%. So wouldn't the roads also be more crowded because of that? And thus more traffic accidents because of the increase in business activity and increase on use of public roads. It just really annoys me because this guy was obviously trying to find a reason for why legalization is dangerous and is grasping for any stat that could help him in his propaganda push. With all the road rage out there I honestly would feel way more safe if everyone toked a little before getting behind the wheel. People would certainly be more cautious and considerate.
