According to the SBS hemp is now considered a legal food in Australia. This is an important step forward for this healing medicine.
It is important to not here that consumption of hemp does not induce psychoactive effects. Hemp contains little to no THC so you can’t get high eating it.
Hemp is a valuable and naturally sustainable resource with contributions to be made across a number of important industries.
The Benefits Of Hemp As A Food
Hemp is full of protein and delivers a distinctly nutty flavour. Hemp is now legalised for Australian consumption and hemp products can now be legally sold as food products. Shortly there will be a hemp festival held in Melbourne with hemp food and other products for display and sale.
A Food Standards Australia New Zealand or FSANZspokesperson said:
“Our risk assessment found that low-THC hemp seed foods are safe for consumption and can provide a good alternative source of nutrients and polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially Omega-3 fatty acids.”
A recognised part of this drive has been Paul Benhaim who amongst other things is the founder of Hemp Foods Australia and a prominent figure in the push for improved legislation. Benhaim belives:
“Hemp is a super-food that’s been around as far back as history records go,” Benhaim says. “It’s one of the best plant-based balanced sources of Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids and good quality plant-based protein.”
The Move Towards Rational Plant Medicine
Australian producers will finally be given access to a growing global industry currently worth in excess of $500 million.
Another Australian propoent of Hemp as a food is Lissa Todini of Sydney's Doceromona who believes:
*“Legalisation is very exciting. Hemp has a really good profile because it’s organic, it’s sustainable. It works really well with other ingredients and it has a very pleasant taste."
Sounds tasty! 😉
Australia's Legalisation Process
Until now Australia has been the only western nation which has banned the consumption of hemp seed foods. December 2 and 3 will showcase hemp seeds, oil and other food will be on show at the Hemp Health & Innovation Expo.
The Australian parliament passed laws to permit the manufacture of medical cannabis at a national level. The Health Minister called it a "historical day", yet few real changes have been seen. The public is left wondering when the movements for medical cannabis will come into effect. Any Australian's who have information process would love to be corrected or learn about the changing situation! 😉
Dr. Alex Wodak A.M, who is President of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation had this to say:
"I expect that it will happen in 2017. The Federal Government prefers a national scheme to a system where six states and two territories operate their own systems. I agree with that view but the USA seems to be able to manage with 28 states having approved medicinal cannabis - only a few haven’t started yet."

man-made laws are absurd. This is another example. The gov does not care about people health, they now have vaccines, GMOs, chemtrails, etc anyway. So is now hemp going to skyrocket and become a corporate-gov driven business?
it is a lot more important to address the nuisances (what make us sick) first.
Completely agreed! Still nice to see anything that is a positive change! =)
here in the USA, pot growers are now big businesses operating as "legal" cartels and monsanto has already concocted a "potent" strain.
regulations always work in favor of whatever monopoly. That is why regulating consensual activities leads to nowhere but more power. I am a voluntaryist :)
Too true my sista! UPvoted! Thank you for always making great comments! =)
I think we need to make cannabis legal for recreational use or at least the laws changed as well as the scheduling. Were supposed to be a free country but I have a feeling that we have to wait for all the old politician to get out of office or just die and newer generation to go in and change shit around.
Very fair point mate! Thanks for the resteem! UPvoted with pleasure! =)
Great news.
Finally! And fair enough too! UPvoted and followed! =)
I use hemp. I put the PROTEIN Powder into my Smoothies ♦♦ Do like that "nutty flavor" it possesses.
Think it gives me a little energy BOOST !
I agree it works well w/ other components -- when I add in my other protein powder + papaya, etc, it tastes nice. Good aroma to it, as well ♦♦ HAPPY you provided this info to us today (upvoted)
