Gregory Allen wants to sue the city of Arcata, California, because he says that they intentionally tried to sabotage his 4/20 celebrations. Allen claims that the police and city officials engaged in a secret multi-year plan to try and squash cannabis celebrations at Redwood Park in the city.
Allen claims that the police did things like spread fish-scented fertilizer around the park, in an effort to try and discourage people from coming out and attending any cannabis celebration.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just ruled this week that Allen is allowed to proceed with his lawsuit against the city; he's been trying to sue them since 2014. He firmly believes that city officials intentionally conspired with law enforcement to infringe upon the annual celebration.
If you aren't free to express yourself, by engaging in peaceful disobedience in the public park, then you are living in a police state says Allen's lawyer.
Getting to choose what we put into our own bodies should be an extension of our natural rights. Cannabis and hemp have a long history in the United States and it's a violation to the people's liberty to punish them for trying to engage in such an act.
Is it really a wise allocation of time and resources for the state to initiate violence against people who are peacefully consuming an herb? The people not only in the U.S. but around the world are growing tired of the drug war farce and it's past the time for it to be put to an end.
Allen has tried to argue that the actions of city officials and law enforcement in this matter violated his First Amendment rights.
City officials don't seem too worried about the matter, they've indicated that they believe the suit will ultimately be dismissed; despite the recent ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Wouldn't it have been great if there were some kind of medicine that would have helped the 100's of millions of people who died from cancer..? Oh right, someone might have had a good time and got the munchies.

The only thing that spreading fish-scented fertilizer would do is make potheads hungry for fish! This clearly demonstrates, although, the utter lack of creativity in what police departments do as far as squash non-violent activity.
Another thing: the sweet, pungent odor of marijuana in general would overpower the fish scent 2 to 1.

Fish-scented fertilizer? Seriously, now I've heard it all. These people are soooo freaking weird. Can you imagine loving power so much you're willing to oppress your fellow man for just a little taste of it? They are at the bottom of our evolutionary scale.

It is crazy the state of the state on cannabis. While its legal, though not to buy yet, they treat it has a hardcore drug. It has effected me greatly. Great post.

Yeah the city of Arcata has been in a running battle for years to shut the 420 event down. I live just down the road in Eureka.

The so called legalization has created a lot of earning potential for those who buy insanely expensive licenses. It's a messy situation but I hope that freedom will prevail.
It's sad to see the same government who said they care for us don't because you cannot tell me you have found a break through leading to curing some deadly illness, marijuana which is much cheaper to produce than the pharmaceutical drugs which eats out your inside like a parasitic worm is still a debate? I thought it was research to find cures for diseases it seems to me it's really all about the money. In my country this herb is a God sent we use it down for the purpose of harden of our man hood. check the statistics.
