In 1965, the active compound of cannabis was first described by Raphael Mechoulam and his colleague in a scientific article with the title "A TOTAL SYNTHESIS OF DL-DELTA-1-TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL, THE ACTIVE CONSTITUENT OF HASHISH."
Their discovery has fueled all current research on cannabis, he became the father of cannabis. To me he is a hero, and a living legend.
Since I started research in the field of cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system I had the pleasure to hear Raphael Mechoulam talk at several conferences such as the those organized by the International Cannabinoid Research Society or the European Workshop on Cannabinoid Research.
Apart from being brilliant, he is also a very kind and pleasant person. I strongly recommend you watch the following video from the http://mechoulamthescientist.com/ for the full story.
During the 6th European Workshop on Cannabinoid Research in Dublin I was lucky enough to have him and his wife sitting at the same table as me during the gala dinner (that's me between him and his wife).
Let me know in the comments what would you like me to write about next within the subject of cannabis research.
