Dear all,
For several weeks, I had my computers working on four different projects, but now I decided to concentrate everything on World Community Grid, in order to maximize my Byteball rewards.
The main reason for the switch is to benefit from the latest increase of Byteball's popularity.
Based on my experience, Byteball is rewarding about 0.0025 GBYTEs for every 5000 BOINC Credit Points earned from World Community Grid, equivalent to about 10 GRCs, which is indeed, a great deal!
But on the long run, I'm convince that Gridcoin is a better reward system because it offers more alternatives for research projects (including GPUs) and because the decisions are taken in a more democratic way. Therefore, my current plan to reinvest all GBYTEs earnings back into Gridcoin. My hope is that more people will be doing this, in what can be the start of a steady demand of Gridcoin on the market... What do you think?
I'm triple mining, earning SPARC (https://alpha.sparc.network), 3 other projects. SPARC is not trading yet and also stopped rewarding WCG. Still, my primary motivation is advancing science, for which cryptos are a bonus, so I've diversified across 4 projects.
You just planted 0.14 tree(s)!
Thanks to @rufusfirefly
We have planted already 3472.32 trees
out of 1,000,000

Plant trees with @treeplanter and get paid for it!

Thanks a lot!

WCG is a nice project! I'm glad that Byteball incentives can boost participation. I also am running WCG and reinvesting GBYTES in Gridcoin.
I am curious about Byteball though too, so I plan on following developments there as well.
By nature, Byteball doesn't need any mining actually, the reward given to WCG contributors is a way among others to spread bytes to maximum people to create network effect. When initial distribution will be over, this will have to stop.
Then there won't be inflation anymore for Byteball while GRC will continue to have an increasing supply. So from a strict economical point of view, I'm not sure that GRC having a better reward system is a good argument in favor for its future price.
But of course, scarcity is not the only factor that determines the price so it's hard to predict which is the better horse.
Inflation is not bad, it can be good or bad. Deflation is not good, it can be bad or good. Value is not price, price follows value.
Since you're talking about the network effect here, let's use that as an example. Something that is deflationary is probably going to have a decreasing network effect over time. Those in the beginning get a lot of a it, this in the middle get some of it, those at the end get little or none of it. Some sort of distribution mechanism (which deflation does not encourage) or inflation would be required to maintain the network effect moving forward, yes?
I am double mining too! :)
Any good guide for getting started, with WCG / byteball combo?
I'm currently crunching on grcpool.com. The site has added a mention of ByteBall (GBYTE) on the front page, but I can't find a way to see the amount owed / any payout options.
They also give GBYTEs for existing WCG credits.
Yes, but I am crunching under grcpool.com so it doensn't help. I need to wait until the pool provides payouts in bytes. But that's OK.
