I believe so. However, the "mute" and "follow" functionality haven't yet been enabled, unfortunately. All they do at the moment is record your preference on the blockchain to follow someone's posts/comments or alternatively to hide them.

wow, random seeing you here, you are the only witness I have voted for a couple days ago, lol.

I used that. It didn't seem to do anything. I still get comments from the person. Maybe it'll be implemented in the future to fully block said person from seeing your blogs and commenting?

LOL this is hilarious.

First off, you are posting on a public ledger, anyone and everyone can and will be able to read what you post here. If you get this upset about 2 comments, what will happen when instead of 16k accounts here (probably less unique ones considering your downvote army) there will be 160k, or 1.6million users. Do you think all you will hear will be rainbow and sunshines? If you can't handle any jokes or criticism, this might not be the place for you, nor for anyone else who is that sensitive to a joke, and a comment from 2 days ago that wasn't even in any way directed at you.
Also downvoting isn't just there in case you don't agree with a person and censor the whole thread like its north-korea up in here.

But calm down with the attention-spree, if it really bothers you that much I won't comment on your posts in the future (although I shouldn't have to cause this is the open internet - free speech) You don't own the site, you don't own the comment section. Anyone is entitled to their opinion and what they want to say or not say.

The internet never forgets, even with delete buttons, as there is a high chance it will be stored or at the very least cached.

My adolescent posts on Usenet back in the late 90's are all still there - horrific as they were - but serve as a reminder of my progression, or lack of.

Then let's hope this will serve as a reminder to OP's progression too.

I could have handled it better, you are right. I reacted emotionally, rather than just letting it go/ignoring it and don't plan to do so in the future. If anything I learned a lesson and really have no hard feelings at this point. I'm over it. :)

I really don't care . Do what you want. I am not upset. And I agree I do need to deal with criticism (and trolling) if I am going to post super personal stories. That is exactly what I took away from this.

I doubt you will actually stop commenting since you have said that multiple times and just keep commenting but I am prepared to deal with/ignore whatever you say.

I agree with @lauralmons even in FB there is black feature...if anyone posts racist, threatening or rude comments they are booted out and blocked....that is the authors freedom....there are people in Steemit who are NUTS....they are stalking and harassing people, and one guy calls people a "cunt" about every 5 minutes for weeks at a time to try to send a message for people to only write what he wants in the community....so quality writers either hang in there or walk from these cyber bullies who are really cowards. The hide behind fake screen names because they do this so much, to people it is actually a cyber crime....so yes, I support BLOCKING and Reporting feature as what FB has......until then, these people are hurting the community and Steemit could crash is not updated with this feature.

I'm not sure what Steemit's plans are regarding the mute functionality, but it is important to understand that it is impossible to prevent anyone from reading your public blogs.

I think most likely all it will do is simply hide the muted account's posts and comments from your view on steemit.com so that you don't have to be tempted by identified trolls.

that would probably be enough. And yes you're right. I just read a whole article on dealing with trolls as a blogger and I feel a lot more equipped to deal with this situation in the future. I would like the comments hidden though so I don't see hurtful comments mocking my posts. But I plan to toughen up and take it in the mean time. I won't it stifle my voice and I will try to develop a thicker skin. :)
