Good morning friends of Hive, I wanted to share with you a little story, a few days ago when I was on my way to the mountain, I found a dead butterfly, I detail it because it was big and its wings were very beautiful, so I photographed it, back I wanted to take it to house but a girl was in front of me and took it, then my mother shared some information with me where they talk about that butterfly, the funny thing is that they do not talk about living here in Colombia, but here it is.
Look at the beauty of this butterfly in the photos that I am going to show you and read the information that I share with you, I hope you have a nice day! hugs!
****Attacus atlas, the incredible butterfly that disguises itself as a snake, is the largest representative of the Saturniidae family and the largest moth in the world.
Considered one of the largest butterflies in the world, the Attacus Atlas is native to the jungles of Malaysia and can measure about 30 centimeters wide by 25 long, that is, thirty times larger than the average butterfly.
One of the characteristics of this insect is that all of its food and nutrients are ingested during the larval stage. As an adult, the Attacus Atlas has its mouth sealed, so it will never feed during its life as a butterfly, therefore, they live almost two weeks.
With this mechanism, these butterflies have sacrificed their longevity for the greater production of young.
The only objective of these winged insects in their adult stage is to reproduce, leave the eggs necessary to guarantee a new generation and defend the larvae from their main predators, which are birds.
For this reason, this butterfly has evolved so that the ends of its wings resemble the heads of two snakes. The natural predators of birds are these reptiles in Malaysia. This is why it is also known as the snake butterfly.
The caterpillars feed on the leaves of different plants, such as Muntingia calabura, Annona murricata, Cinnamomum verum, Nephelium lappaceum, Psidium guajava, Sandoricum indicum and Citrus spp.
The caterpillar of the Atlas Moth can reach a length of 11.5 cm and is blue-green in color with long dorsal processes. Juvenile caterpillars are covered in a white scent. In addition to the extensions of the last abdominal segment, they have a large green dot surrounded by an orange ring on each side.
Wow... this thing is very big 🧐👌👌😲 but looks also cool.
Thank you very much Koit 😊, did you read all the information? It is interesting, it is the largest species of butterfly in the world and its corners give the shape of a snake 🐍
