The power of eyes on the site curation.
Since the beginning of Steem I've talked about how one of the ways to give Steem value is eyes on the site.
Eyes on the site can see good behavior and bad and the owner of the eyes, build relationships, understands goals and interacts with others. They notice new great content, develop relationships and all of those things end up meaning stickiness to Steem.
Those who post, bot and run do not have loyalty to Steem. They do not engage and they do not participate in some of the best things the community has to offer. (not everyone who bots falls into this category)
Those of us who manually curate know who else manually curates. We tend to know what is on trending and who comments, we know who responds, who upvotes comments, and who just makes their posts and sends them out there.
Eyes on the site can notify others of Plagiarists, Scammers.
I support manual curation, I also think many of the bots are valuable.
Chime in if your eyes are regularly on the site and what benefits does that provide for you?
I must admit my eyes have been more on the #sportstalk tag this past week or so as I'm manually curating there and trying to push the growing community in the right direction from the off.
The new tribes have a chance to go about things the right way from the beginning again and the rewards split (closer to 50/50 or 50/50) seems to be working quite well.
Still got the scammers, but they are taking their pending rewards being cut quite well. (I've not been sworn at or revenge DV'ed as yet!).
This is a really good sign. Building a culture of respect for curation instead of entitlement issues.
Agreed. It is a good sign and I am seeing more and more actual curation!
It is. I'm not sure if it is the standard reply / an actual reply that is helping or that the accounts being downvoted are aware they are taking the piss but so far so good.
I need to work on my delivery. I'm too damn blunt. At the same time, I've been called so many damn names and accused of being a big villain when I've downvoted in the past, that I simply don't have the patience to deal with that stuff.
fk you! :)
Yah screw this guy! ;)
I knew it wouldn't last :P
Bots don’t compare notes. They don’t point and laugh. They don’t get upset by resources being allocated poorly.
While they can be made to mimic such tasks, there’s really nothing that replaces The Mark I Eyeball.
I have curated manually since the beginning of time. I often feel I am missing out on the automation that so many enjoy and some opportunities are passing me by but it is what it is.
I check steemworld every day for comments, followers and mentions. I manually check my posts and try and upvote/respond to every post. I browse my feed made up of over 200 authors and am here for the networking, learning, and increasing my stake through engagement.
I do miss posts sometimes and probably drop off the radar of some friends due to differing schedules. I may have to look into automating some of that but am happy with the manual curation and journey here.
Upvoting and Flagging Since the Primordial Stew™️
Regarding missing out, sometimes I consider that I could have leveraged my stake differently had I given into the autovoters.
My account would probably be worth more, but what I enjoy is the people!
I've been using Steemdunk auto voting service to upvote many authors automatically. But it drained my voting power pretty fast. Plus I didn't get the benefit while manually engaging with these posts and authors. So now most of my curation is manual. Like on this very post. I like reading good posts and then upvoting as well commenting about ideas from such posts. Usually good authors write back and so conversation continues. If I upvote and comment a few more times the same author, they will start paying attention to what I write as well. This is how true relationships are build. Manually...
Well my eye speaks up through curating few posts for helpie....I do that daily and look out for good content creator who brings value to the platform. Espcially looking after art, food, and travel. Always try to encourage and lookout for undervalue content and support them with helpie cake....I get to know so many lovely people who are here and bring many interesting stuff...

I'm sure you know I'm on Steem a lot manually creating, but I don't know what is 'trending' as I generally assume it will be via paid votes. I am doing some automated voting via the @tenkminnows trail. My main issue is the time it takes to keep up with what good people are posting and to look out for new people. Using up my votes is easy.
It's way too easy! I hear you.
I've been switching off some of my autovotes to let my VP rise to increase my manual creation. It's more fun anyway. I have never liked autovotes and fought against it for so long.
Manual curation rules!
I support manual curation as well. Bots trying really hard to become like us, the manual curators. However, they seem like they can't achieve that. #newsteem is a better steem where most people are conscious of their behavior and act accordingly.
I agree. Also too much autovoting makes for a boring Steem experience.
I try to as it gives me what I think is an undervalued asset of Steem, perspective! Gaining the thoughts of users helps when getting opposite thoughts as it could help me adapt, change or at least understand points of view.
I did use bots for a little while and I felt empty.
i would not be here this much if it is not fun, sometimes more, sometimes less. so a lot of things i vote i actually read or watch :D
Bit of both. Follow a few trails. But scan DAILY and upvote and engage CONSTANTLY. Eyes always on site!

Sounds like a great mix
Was manually curating today :)
Well thank you for that! :)
I try to manually curate almost every day. Since my vote is small, I normallly vote at 50%, so I run my upvote power down pretty quickly. Still, manual curation is something I believe in doing, even if I don't have a comment for some of the posts that I curate.
I am always killing my voting power! There are days, I would pay to recharge it.
Didn't someone mention burning your own STEEM as payment to recharge? That wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Organic steem is the only steem I've ever tasted

Organic is the healthy way. This is what nature intended us to be.
Studies have shown bot abuse leads to many diseases..

Yeah manual curation not easy to do, but it's the best way to do that! Congratz with your new concept and seems it's working!

I prefer manually curating, which is why I like to cull my feed regularly. Unfortunately I follow some witnesses and devs just because and they may product or resteem a lot of uninteresting content (ie. Irrelevant for non devs), so I tend to want to just autovote some of their stuff or vote based on just seeing their name.
I'm a strong supporter of smarter feeds like steempeak and tribes.
Maybe if someone can separate curated (for those interested in reading) from needs curating (for those who want to spread their vote wisely).

u wat now? :D
Oh weird I screwed that up some how!
I do have a surprise coming tomorrow which we just blew. Adsactly has made an account for manual curation! It holds more steem power than I do.
As you can see I will be the one manually curating with it!
Stay tuned.
That message was meant for the other account and I obviously used the wrong steemconnect link to sign it. :) This is the joy of managing multiple accounts.
You've been fairly consistent, congratulations!
Oh lol thought you were trying to be funny first. :D
But cool, nice to see bigger accounts curating again!
