Its just a couple of days to the Steem meet-up in Owerri and I'm excited.

I've been asked to make a presentation on the relationship between Steemit, Blockchain and Steem Cryptocurrency. In the following paragraphs, I'll be giving spoilers of my presentation.

Spoilers

Firstly, its important that we understand that the Steem blockchain, the Steem Cryptocurrency, and the Steem Social Media(Steemit.com, e.t.c) are three separate entities.

The Steem Blockchain is simply a ledger or a record. This is where all the data is stored. The Steem blockchain is a public blockchain and it has the basic features of a public blockchain namely:

• It is public.
• It is transparent
• It is immutable
• It is decentralized:

It also has some special features that make it stand out from other cryptos.

The Steem Cryptocurrency: is the basic /native currency of the Steem blockchain. Steem is produced using some complex algorithm and distributed to the community members who create content or add value to the Steem blockchain.

The Steem social media/Steemit: Steemit is one of the Steem social media. It is important that we remember that there are many social media in Steemit. These are just websites through which we can assess the steem blockchain. We can add transactions/posts/events/entries through these websites and also read the information stored in the blockchain using these sites.

After explaining what these three entities mean, I plan to show the audience how the three entities are connected. I will explain why/how the Steem social media and the steem blockchain are connected. I will explain why steemit.com needs a cryptocurrency and why it is built on a blockchain.
