Do not confuse steem and steemit.com.
When you buy STEEM, you are increasing your stake in the ecosystem which is all the applications on the steem blockchain. What I am referring to here is Steemit.com, the interface.

But what will happend with STEEM once it's locked on Steemit in form of SP? assuming that Steemit Inc would shut down?
