Steem Basic Income
Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.
Many of our members use the #steembasicincome tag for their contests, so check there for contests that we might not have included in our listings!
Still Going Strong
We are up to nine pools, so your upvotes could come from @steembasicincome, @sbi2, @sbi3, @sbi4, @sbi5, @sbi6, @sbi7, @sbi8, or @sbi9. We currently have 3548 members that have posted within the last 28 days, and many more members that have not. Unfortunately, members that are not posting are not receiving upvotes. There are currently 33922 'shares' in the program, and it grows every day.
Support from Members
Thank you all for your support! Upvotes that we receive from members are an essential component to help us keep delivering a sustainable basic income!

All members that upvote consistently are rewarded with a bonus increase in their voting weight. This is based on upvotes in the previous 28 days. If you have just started auto-voting our updates, it may take a full month before you see your full bonus take effect. To get the best benefit, we recommend using @steemvoter or @steemauto.
We have improved the targeting so that members get full bonus if they upvote each update, even if we miss a few days. In the last 28 days, we have posted only 12 updates, so a full upvote bonus is currently based on providing 17 full upvotes (or equivalent- some members provide partial upvotes but also upvote comments from @steembasicincome). We do not currently include upvotes on comments from pool accounts toward your bonus, but those upvotes still improve sustainability.
We use some of the fixed-return upvoting services (a la @minnowbooster), and you can see their impact in the chart. They help boost long-term sustainability, as you can see in our 28-day SP rewards, which has distinct spikes when our updates payout:

Self-voting Updates
The average upvoting bonus is 32.48% and our weekly update income is only 17.9% of the amount that we pay out in upvotes each week, with full upvotes from each of our pool accounts.
Our weekly sustainability goal is for the average upvoting bonus to be roughly 40%, and for our update income to be 40% of what we pay out in upvotes each week. Beginning June 3rd, we resumed self-voting each update. Since most programs on Steem charge a 15 or 25% management fee, we believe that a 10% self-voting target on top of 5% management shares is reasonable.
Enrollment
If you want to get involved, or to increase the share of basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:
Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program. You can sponsor any active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.
If you're unclear, please check out our full transaction memo guidelines and then let us know if you have any questions.
https://steemit.com/basicincome/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-new-transaction-memo-guidelines
The official currency for enrollment is STEEM. We are not currently accept SBD for enrollments. Please allow up to 7 days for your enrollment to be processed.

Questions?
Please read our recently published FAQ. Most questions are addressed in our FAQ or in the additional resources that it suggests. Hey @steembasicincome 2 things: 1 I love your service and am currently working on setting up auto-upvoting on your posts :)
2, unfortunately I did not receive any upvotes from steembasicincome today, yet I did get it from sbi2, sbi3 and sbi4. Just wondering if something went wrong?
There was some downtime from the @steemvoter service. We are still using @steemvoter for pool 1 (the main account) although all of the lower pools have been switched over to @steemauto.
AH thanks great to know I also now see you added pools which means I will try to send in more STEEM soon, even though I have not nearly maxed out yet haha :)
Steemvoter has been down for me all day giving login errors. Anybody else?
Also, if I wanted to join steembasicincome would I have to wait for someone to sponsor me? It's unclear if a person can join on his own by sending in the fee himself without sponsoring anybody else.
You can join without waiting for somebody to sponsor you. You just sponsor somebody else and you both get shares.
If you send an enrollment without a name to sponsor, we select an existing member for you to sponsor instead. You cannot sponsor yourself.
Great. I think I'll let you guys sponsor someone for me, sending now! :)
FYI, the post from 2 days ago wasn't upvoted by steemdunk and I know steemauto was having issues around the same time. So those who rely on the autovote software should double check every few days to make sure your votes for SBI are happening.
Unfortunately, this also impacts our votes going out. We are looking forward to getting onto our own server and software.
When you do this it would be a GREAT service to offer to your members. If you offer a free solution up to X number of autovotes and then a premium service it could pay for your servers.
Love me some SBI keep on rolling. 👌
Not that I think we should think of life as a game, but if we did... I think SBI is the way I usually like to play. Incremental growth.

Question! I remember you said at some point that you'd done the math and best curation rewards came if you voted at 19 minutes. Is that still the case, do you still do that?
Posted using Partiko Android
We are still voting at 19 minutes most of the time. Since the protocol only accepts one upvote per block from each account, and we have a lot of members, sometimes votes come a little late.
As we move into automation, we are looking at whether we can continually recalculate the best time for each member and dynamically maximize the curation rewards to further build sustainability.
The fun little trick/extra bonus for SBI users is that there's then an incentive for me to set an auto vote on the largest SBI holders for 18 minutes.

@steembasicincome We're running a competition where we are giving away shares in @steembasicincome, the problem is we didn't receive our SBI upvote on the competition post. Please could you guys ensure the upvote goes on our latest post as it's not a great advertisement if we're missing upvotes from the service we're giving away shares in.
We caught it up. We apologize that our reliance on third-party services has caused a lot more issues this last week. We are working on completing our own voting program.
I’ve never understood how the “per vote” number for someone who has a bunch of shares can be so much lower than for someone else who has relatively few shares.
Relative posting frequency.
Member A has 10 shares but posts 10 times per week. Member B has only 5 shares, but posts only 3 times per week. Which member should receive more upvote value on each post?
Member A:
10 shares * 0.012 per share = 0.12 per week
Divided by 10 posts = 0.012 per post.
Member B:
5 shares * 0.012 per share = 0.06 per week
Divided by 3 posts = 0.02 per posts.
Make a little more sense now? Share count drives weekly value, but members post at different frequencies, so their per post value can seem disconnected from share count. (FYI this is all explained in the posts that we link in the 'Questions' section of each update)
Hey @steembasicincome so basically it does not matter how often you post, you get a weekly value anyway :)
I'm also wondering, I have started to upvote your posts because I learned this is important as well. I upvote with 100% and upvote all SBI posts from now on. Can you tell me how this effects the upvote strength?
That's right; it does not matter how often you post (as long as it's once a week- but that restriction will be removed with automation) you still get the same value.
Currently we look at what % of updates received a full upvote over the past 28 days. You receive that % bonus to your upvote value. So the bonus would start small and build over time until you are receiving a full bonus. That will also be changed with automation, so we recommend reading our recent announcement:
https://steemit.com/busy/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-rshares-and-automation
Always glad to throw a vote your way; this is one of the best things going on Steemit, and especially as an incentive for recent arrivals who are struggling to get some traction.
Excellent initiative, happy to upvote — I've been an SBI recipient since shortly after I started on Steemit, and I really appreciate that regular @steembasicincome upvote.
It's also a great incentive/giveaway for anyone having a challenge or contest!
=^..^=
This is a really amazing program. Gets my full vote every time! 😎
Thank you for your support!
Ricardo, would you tell what to do here :) based on your experience?
I haven't done anything... I've given 4 SBI shares away... and I've received 8 by participating on several contests. I've set automatic votes for @steembasicincome to take advantage of the optional bonus... And that's it! 😉
Ik, and where do you get it to... your Steemit wallet or another wallet? And what's the optional bonus? Because I've set automatic votes for @steembasicincome as well and so far I can't see any outcome...
Are you receiving regular votes from any account named @sbi2, @sbi3, @sbi4... or any other like that? If so, you're already in the program.
If that's the case, you can follow this post and find the tools to check your current SBI balance:
https://busy.org/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-membership-update-pulling-back-the-screen
If not, you need to enrol in the the program first, either by waiting for someone to sponsor you... or by joining yourself, by sponsoring somebody else.
This costs 1 STEEM and both you and the user you sponsor will get a share. For example, if you want to sponsor @liliana.duarte, you'll need to sent 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome with the memo @liliana.duarte
Both you and her will get 1 SBI added to your SBI balances.
Voting for @steembasicincome with 100% every time, that basically doubles the shares you own. If you stop voting, that bonus will also drop...
I hope this has been helpful. Please check @steembasicincome's posts to clear any doubts.
Yes, thanks, Ricardo. I did all of that, sponsored 3 persons and voting 100% but no sbi nothing until now..... Shall I wait? because only completed everything today...
Oh, yeah... it takes a few days for the registration to complete. Since it's the first time you get SBI shares, you'll receive a wallet message when it's active. After that, you'll have to keep an eye on the xls document, to keep track of your SBI shares.
But you'll probably realise it sooner, when the upvotes kick in.
sbi upvote is not receive in my last 2 posts in 2 days. why ?
Maybe you posted "too much" and already got your amount?
Already got your amount! what mean ?
@lennstar I have 67 shares and upload a post per day. Does it mean " too much " ? Please explain me. Why did I get the upvote daily? @steembasicincome If there is any problem for my application, please let me know.
We have been experiencing some issues with the @steemauto service we use for delivery of the upvotes for lower pools.
@steembasicincome Hope you will solve the problem regarding @steemauto And please upgrade the upvote value for me because I include 40 shares within this week but the upvote value is the same as previous days.
Please allow up to 7 days for enrollments to be completed. It may take even longer for upvote values to fully adjust to your new levels.
Is it guaranteed that I will get up votes every day in exchange of my vote?
Posted using Partiko Android
Your vote has nothing to do with getting a vote in the first place. You need to have SBI shares to get a vote. Upvoting only increases the how much of a vote you will get for your shares.
Congratulations @steembasicincome! You have completed the following achievement on Steemit and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

I receive some share some days ago but I’m not sure whether I ever got an upvote from @steembasicincome.
How can I check that?
Please allow up to 7 days for your enrollment to be processed. Once processed, your upvote will most likely come from one of our pool accounts (like this one!)
Great!
very nice post!
