Another post on the absolutely endorphin releasing fitness class I had just now. We had a bigger batch with other teams joining in so it was so much fun!
There were battle ropes , L sits, Push presses, kettlebell lunges, Medicine ball passes, and much more. No wonder we have become pain junkies. For I can’t imagine anyone in their senses wanting to go through an hour of this and do the workouts three times over! But that’s not what I wanted to share.
One of the exercises involved carrying a weighted 40kgs barbell and squatting. Most of us squatted half but one of the girls did a full one! She squatted deep and completed the workout 10 times. Woohoo! the basement erupted with whistles and cheers! One of us actually pushed harder and nailed it. Our coach the pusher that he is loaded it with another 12 kgs and now it became 52.. By now most of us having done the other sets were tiring, but here she was nailing it again! Now that was something.
I tried harder so did my colleagues. All of us inspired by what she attempted. It wasn’t even about a healthy comperition, it was more about feeling inspired with some one else’s success.
Many a times as colleagues in a similar environment we may be engaged in healthy or sometimes unhealthy competition. Its all about what you think is legit. In this case though I thought she lifted the combined spirits of the group so much so that towards the end, I saw one of the coaches attempting the deep squat, I am supposing, inspired by the novice.
Either ways pushing each other, our friends, colleagues, peers, teams to do more and be a better version of their yesterday’s self is always a nice thing.
Be the inspiration. In small things. In helping each other out. In being there for each other.
Success isn’t about doing the deepest squat. Success was about making others feel that they could better too.
Now that’s not squat…that is something else!
Sometimes seeing other people do something just gives us the courage to go for it! In workouts and in life
