It’s that time of the year again! That time when we get ready for the new year by writing down our goals and resolutions. Every year, I write an array of about 5-10 things want to accomplish ranging from losing weight to saving money. But each and every year, I fail to accomplish those goals. Less than 10% of New Year’s resolutions are actually achieved. (University of Scranton Psychology Professor John C. Norcross, Ph.D.)
Why? Because most of us just write down our goals, without actually creating a vision for what our goals look like or imagine how it would make us feel if we accomplished the goal. For years, professional athletes have been visualizing their end result to improve their performance. Some researchers even say that one minute of visualization is equivalent to seven minutes of physical practice. According to a study by Psychology Today, the same brain patterns occur when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights and when he just visualizes lifting weights.
So, instead of writing down my goals, I started creating vision boards.
In my vision boards, I add photos of what I wanted to accomplish, as well as how it would make me feel when I accomplished those goals. More often than not, when we strive to accomplish a goal, we want the emotion or feeling that we think it will bring when we achieve that goal. We want to lose weight in order to improve our appearance so we can feel more confident in our own skin. We want to save money so that we can feel more secure and safe.
When I write down how it would make me feel, I start to become more aware of my emotions. Am I really going to wait until I save more money to feel secure? Or could I just be grateful for the income that is flowing in my life now and grateful for what it provides in my life? Am I really going to wait until I lose weight to love myself and feel confident? Or could I just love myself NOW and be confident in my own skin? Remember, beauty is only skin deep. I believe that when we are grateful for what we have, we allow God to be open to blessing us with more.
When we are able to experience the emotion that we crave without the object, the person or the thing, but through changing our thoughts and projecting that emotion out within ourselves, the universe matches that emotion and what flows into our life will match the emotion we are already holding.
So, as you create your vision board of the amazing things you want to happen in your life, remember that nothing new can come into your life unless you are grateful for what you already have!

you are absolutely right about vision boards , creative visualization of goals is necessary, but it is more like developing a habit.

Really creative way to set your goals I think this works much better then just write it down.
I think so too! Visualization is important when trying to create your dream life! Happy New Year, friend! Hope you have a blessed one!
