It really helps to focus on niche-based curation (topic specific) because you will develop an audience that appreciates the relevant content. Curators are vital to this ecosystem and I really commend those who do this and do it well.

Steemit makes content much harder to get in front of the right readers due to the limited 7 day earning period. Posts can no longer be resteemed beyond its payout either. So, without curation so much content would go unseen.

HOW YOU CAN EARN:
Post about other authors and content creators and you are supporting the community and creators who are earning like you. You might find the community supports you back! It usually takes a little time (all good things do) but the more you synergize with creators - the greater the reward.
