Every story I write is a long time coming but this one is the first of many.
Hi, I'm Fume, I'm an MS3 student and my life is an unbearable cyclic hell.
Hhahahhaha. Wait. Let me finish.
All medical school students are busy. Thats all we are. Busy.
Busy.
Exhausted .
And tiyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurd.
Too busy to sleep. Too busy to eat. Too busy to date. To call our family. To call our friends. To care about anything other than UWorld.
Heres my schedule:
Wake up- 6 am
Drink a half gallon of coffee - 6:15
Sign in- 630 am
Rounds with scary attendings - 7 to 12 pm
See patients, Run labs for residents, Maybe eat- 6 pm
Sign out - 630 pm
Study - 6:30 to 12 am
Sleep- 12 am - 6 am
Every. DAMN. day.
Meanwhile, everyday we see the craziest things. Rare diseases. Old people who survive. Young people who die. Someone will come in with a cough and leave with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis with 2 weeks to live. Someone will come in with every known disease knocking at deaths door but will skip out the door the next day.
Here in the hospitals, up is down, down is up. Right equals left. And you just never know who's gonna make it.
Day in and out we do it, all in the hope that one day, we will be doctors ourselves and make some meaning in this crazy world.
It will be worth it ultimately, at least thats what we tell ourselves but damn I just want a nap.
I am your future doctor,
Fume
