Dolphin Status Achieved

On September 12, 2018 I made a post celebrating half way to dolphin. I told myself I wasn't going to put more money in until mid month, but with Bitcoin breaking out in an upward direction today I became impatient.

Worth it?

This is a very risky time to be investing in Steem, but it really is the only crypto I legitimately use. Got to put my money where my time is.

Wasting my time/money?

Sometimes I feel like a crazy person. I bought at $2.60, $1.60, $0.90, $0.33, and now $0.29. Sometimes I feel like I wasted my money buying that high, when I was fairly certain the price would indeed crash lower. However, how many people would have taken me seriously if I didn't have the stake to back up my words? Can I look at the money that I "wasted" in the past as an investment for building a network here? I think I can justify this outlook. I will continue to buy Steem all the way down to 5 cents if it comes to that.

The main reason I worry about investing here is that @ned continues to power down his entire account and seems to have gone dark for a full month. I guess he is still commenting so that's fine I suppose. At least the bigger accounts like @steemit are not powering down. Downward pressure from STINC and SBD continue, but I feel like we actually have some support at this level regardless of how it all goes down. Considering we are tied to the bigger market I think it's easier for price to go up than down, but I've come to realize I'm a pretty terrible speculator. Best to just buy in from time to time to lower the risk of volatility.

Another reason I feel like I'm wasting my time is that Steemit exists to lower the bar of entry to development. It's trying to bring development to the masses so that anyone can try to bring value here. As someone with a computer science background I should probably be doing more coding and less talking. Some days I'll post a blog and then do some crypto research or check the news. By the time I go to work the whole day is gone and I didn't learn anything new about the API here. Hopefully I snap out of it and get back to learning JavaScript.

I told myself I was going to wait to become a dolphin, but a big reason I bought in just now is because I want to join the Dolphin Council @kabir88 set up. I think a group like this can bring real value to the platform. Even if the USD value of Steem crashes further it will be worth it to start collaborating with Steem's middle class in an attempt to bring constructive change to the blockchain.

Conclusion

I've somewhat overextended my reach when it comes to investing in Steem, but I expect it will all work out in the end. More than just an investment, I hope to support a platform that can break the chains of artificial scarcity and help create jobs for the mass of individuals currently working redundant dead-end jobs.

I am still fully prepared to lose everything.
Even if this platform implodes it was still worth a shot.
I believe.

My Minnowhood may have cost me more than Dolphin level. Not sure how you bought your steem in fiat, but it sounds like a good deal compared to my 8275 btc satoshi / steem. 😎

P.S. STEEM On!!!

Brave choice my friend, and hoping it works out for you/us.
Ned needs to just move over and stop bleeding this place dry is my honest opinion.

Congrats @edicted, I'm proud of you. It's the people holding strong, powering up with this skeleton crew we're running, that bring me the most Hope! <3 <3 <3 Right On!!!

Firstly, congratulations!
I also wanna be a dolphin sometimes. :)

I'm totally with you and agree on all of your articles and am happy to have you here!
Trying to improve my english to better integrate myself in (philosophy, p-o-b) discussions by you and other great thinkers.
Greets from germany ;)

Welcome to the dolphins :)

Next stop: Orca!

congrats bud!

The dolphin council just got one stronger and you may have picked the bottom perfectly. STEEM May dip a bit lower but it will also most certainly go way higher.

Congrats and let’s work on making that a great investment.

Congrats and welcome! Look forward to working with you and the growing middle class of users not only interested in growing but also adding value and sustainability to the ecosystem!

We're on a similar boat. I feel like I got it cheap but it seems to get cheaper every day. I am not a Dolphin yet but I will get there once I see BTC around 2000$ 😝

Good call, I'm going to feel dumb if Steem goes back to 10 cents :D

Congrats on achieving your goal. I know the status to become a dolphin is quite exciting since I'm still a minnow with 4900SP I also can't wait to cross the 5K barrier.
Most of my recent Steem went all into Steemmonsters otherwise I would have become Dolphin much earlier, but I see a huge potential for SM.
What do you think about SM as an investment compared to Steem?
We know that Steem has a high inflation rate and now there is Steemmonsters a collectible card game (that works and rewards players) with a shrinking supply of certain cards. Isn't that beautiful to invest your inflated Steem into cards that will become more scarce. I wonder how far this money flow could go when you even consider that SM leads the Dapp community on how they finance the game.
Steem On!!!

Steem monsters is interesting and I hope the project gains momentum, but I'm more interested in projects that are owned and controlled by the community at large, just like cryptocurrency itself.

I think we need to invent unique business models that couldn't have existed before the blockchain existed. We need to use the strengths of decentralization to develop digital assets that are created and secured by the community that values those assets. There should never be a middle man.

Yea Well but it seems like you need this perfect decentralized blockchain to develop a good decentralized blockchain (or this blockchain you need)

Blockchain Devs are also pretty rare and split..

We also definetely need more tutorials to get people involved.
Python or Java isnt that hard and the basic infrastructure is already here and being extended by people like you :)

Yeah, I agree decentralization is key but not every business model suits best for decentralized platforms. Tradingplatforms, gambling and peer-2-peer markets are probably the most obvious use cases for cryptos aka blockchain.

When more people find out that Steem is not only good for blogging and content creation than we could spark the interest of more developers as well. I also think that Utopian.io is a very great project and should deserve some more attention.
Thanks for your good responds!!! I followed the conversation with @yabapmatt where he mentioned that Steemmonsters is right now more centralized than decentralized. He really wants to develop the code to become open source and I think the way they are doing it is right.

Congratulations!

My working theory is that the Steem blockchain will either do very well or crash and burn. Muddling through and being mediocre seems to be the least likely outcome. You’ll either be very happy or out a few thousand bucks. Just a guess, but I’m betting that strong hands will be well rewarded.

Welcome to the club !

I may be powering up some more in the near future, I won’t be hitting dolphin but I might get to 1k SP. the price differences between my main investment coin and Steem is looking good.

Congrats for your decision firstly. It’s always nice to see the middle class getting stronger every day. The more dolphins we have around, the better.

And since I assume you are here for the long haul don’t worry about the price you purchased your stake. Any price below .50$ is a steal

Congrats on hitting dolphin status and for youre commitment to the blockchain. It's a nice feeling to hit that mark and you have taken full advantage of the low prices. I think that in time to come 30c STEEM will look like an absolute bargain. If the development keeps progressing at the rate it is now it's hard to see the price not going over a dollar again never mind how high it could possibly go over the next few years.

I'm hoping the dolphin council can have some say in that and if we work together as a committed group with a large stake behind us we can make things happen. Good to have you.
