Paharpur Buddhist Bihar or Sompur Bihar: The most glorious tourist spot of Badolgachhi Upazila, Naogaon district is Sompur Bihar or Paharpur Buddhist Vihara. The Paharpur Buddhist Vihara is located in the Paharpur village under the present Paharpur Union Parishad. Paharpur is the name of the modern modern named Sompur. In the seventh century (770-810 AD) Buddhist religious royal dynasty was established in Bangladesh. In the eighth and ninth century AD, Dharmapala, the second and third of the Pala dynasty, and his son Devapar established a great empire till Bengal, Bihar and Kanauj. The Paharpur Bihara and temples were developed in Bangladesh under the patronage of Buddhists during the extreme excellence of Buddhism. Due to historical and geographical reasons, this mahavihara became ruined, but today even today this wonderful temple is known as the greatest Buddhist monastery in Asia.
There were 177 rooms for Buddhist monks in the Paharpur Buddhist Vihara. Paharpur Buddhism is situated on a total of 70.31 acres of land. Currently, the Bangladesh Archeology Department builds a museum, a house and a few administrative buildings. Due to the excavation of 1934, the Department of Archeology discovered the rooms and the entire canopy of Satyapir Bhita and the temple's exterior chambers on the east side of this monastery. In the middle of it, the main monastery and its surroundings are filled with 198 rooms, spacious entrance, numerous entertainment rooms, small temples, puskarini. The temple is 314 feet east-west at 357 feet in the north-south direction. The main building is in the middle of it. In the evening, there was the king's voice. Paharpur Buddhist Bihar is recognized as one of the oldest cultural traditions in the world today for its huge size and historical significance. Recently, it was published by the UNESCO World Heritage List.
There are 63 statues found in the stone square of Paharpur. Various animal species are found in the temple complex. The height of the monastery is about 72 feet high. Paharpur can be identified as the mini version of ancient Nalanda University. Every year there are many foreign and foreign tourists and ordinary people meeting.
