The destructive is in the genes of modernity, both in its capitalist and socialist expression. Such orientation is not a deformation or a circumstance. It belongs to its logic, its reason for being, its nature. So much so that we do not make an incongruity in talking about the production mode of destruction. True, today, in this evolutionary moment of humanity, we are in the stage of the capitalist world system in which the highlight is the production of destruction, destruction of nature, destruction of life, destruction of human beings. We entered the era of extermination, the time of the beginning of our self-destruction. Therefore, when one looks at any place on the planet, we will run into destructive processes in progress.
Barbarism reigns everywhere. Barbarism the distinctive sign of these times, and its correlate, suffering, is the situation that supports much of the world's population.
One of the paradigmatic principles of this system is the divorce established between society and nature. For this divorce is thought that nature has been given to men to be used to free will, is there for them to extract what they require, is a simple instrument in the hands of such men.
In this thinking, nature contains mere resources, be they forests, animals, mines, waters, soils, etc .; of all can be arranged without restrictions. One of the defenders of such a divorce and such a belief was Francis Bacon back in the seventeenth century, at the dawn of capitalist modernity. This French thinker said that nature had to be tortured in order to extract its wise interior. It was necessary to enslave her, to repress her with all her strength, to harass her in her wanderings, to torture her until she took away her secrets. And so it has happened since then. Such a formulation has been fulfilled to the letter. Since then, nature has been treated as a mechanical body, as a thing, as a rough instrument that must be beaten to adore it and put it at the service of man.
On the other hand, the schools and universities have been in charge of convincing us that this way of thinking about nature is supported by scientific principles, with which that formulation has taken root more firmly in people's thinking and acquired the status of a paradigm. by which all our beliefs and concepts are sifted.
