Hello Steemian ! I'm probably one of the youngest entrepreneur on earth. However, I really love learning from entrepreneurs and reading stories and advice on this sub. I've taken a few classes such as Business Management, Securities and Investments, and Banking & Finance. In these classes, I have genuinely enjoyed learning the information, projects, textbooks, etc. I'm really into motivational "things" (quotes, posters, speeches, books, blogs, weekly emails) along with business advice "things" (i subscribe to about 3 different weekly-ish business advice blogs/podcasts). A little side note here, i have been running a mine craft network for a year now. It made about $500-600 this year in sales (most of it going back into the server bills with the exception to a few hundred added to my account used to buy my laptop). Not much profit but hey, i consider it my little business.
One thing i learned from my classes was that you never know if an idea will become a success. Upon learning that, i have written down every decent business idea that comes into my head. After sharing a few ideas with friends and family, i was told i have a few really awesome ideas.
Like i said I'm only 17. I dont have expert knowledge on marketing, product development, etc. but i do know that there are many other young entrepreneurs out there who are successful even as teenagers. What i wanted to recieve through this post is some advice on a few things from some higher level business owners. Below i will provide some of my more wondered about questions (i have learned the textbook answers to a few of these through my classes although i want more personable answers through this if possible)
What is the best way/How do most entrepreneurs get their businesses started? This includes how/where you get money to start? How/where do you get your first customers?
Where do you start? (lets say after college) Save money? Get a loan? Get investors somehow? (A little redundant but think of it more as an extension to the previous question)
How do you and the business survive if it ends up not making much money?
How long does it take to eventually start making an actual decent income?
Will i still enjoy my work if its all the constant stress and time I'm told it is?
In college, What do you guys major in if you plan on starting a business? At first i thought Business Management or Entrepreneurship, then i thought "How are you going to develop your product without engineering knowledge or programming knowledge?". It seems like you cant have one without needing the other, so try to explain how that works i guess.
These are all the questions i can think of right now but if i think of more, i will post again. Thank you for reading and sorry for the length!!
