As a tax man I was asked a question about savings and credits. My simple lay response goes:
With my little experience as an adult, I have found out that one of the reasons why we have a large record of rural-urban migration is the fact that a lot of them feel there is nothing for them in the rural areas and they feel neglected. I think if these people in the areas knew how to best manage themselves, they would probably realize their full potentials. A lot of them have small businesses, but the issue of expansion is their problem. I'll still use the example of farmers in the rural areas. A farmer, who has a good business idea and sometimes good strategy, may face the challenge of inadequate funding, and obviously majority of them may not be enlightened about how to get funding from a financial institution. Some of them hereby abandon their BUSINESSES and resort to urban migration. I emphasized on businesses because this is not applicable to farmers or people in the agricultural sector alone, it cut across all kinds of businesses. They need to be taught the art of savings and credits; this will grow their businesses. A business owner should understand the power of savings, to cater for the future need of the business and adequate funding through credits give opportunity for expansion.
