Look at yourself from the outside
When you in your career have reached the stage where, as you think, you must move from the place of the subordinate to the commander's chair, you must first understand yourself. Conduct, so-called, self-examination, self-analysis. It should touch, first of all, your qualities, abilities and potential. After all, having ambitions for promotion is good, but when these ambitions have absolutely nothing to do with themselves, it is unlikely that anything good will come of it.
Write on the sheet of paper two columns: in one list all your qualities that allow you to become a leader (for example, responsibility, self-discipline), and in the other - all those qualities that can become a serious obstacle to become a boss (for example, laziness, lack of organization, short-sightedness). The first column must be at least twice as long as the second column. If this is not so, it's worth thinking about whether I can handle the role of the chief?
Be logical in actions
You, as a subordinate, should be completely predictable and understandable in your professional behavior for your boss. Become a "comfortable" worker. Make your boss feel that it is convenient and pleasant for him to work with you under any conditions. And then he will make a decision much faster to give you a promotion.
There are people who, in pursuit of good relations with their superiors, may not express their dissatisfaction on any occasion, "swallow" unreasonable criticism and silently hide insult. Usually such people are silent for the time being, and when they reach the point they throw out the whole storm of emotions accumulated by months, and perhaps even for years. The management does not like such employess, as this behavior causes not the most comfortable feelings. You never know what to expect from such people. And if you are unpredictable for the authorities in the bad sense of the word, then it is unlikely that he will consider your candidacy for the post of director or head of the department.
Maintain a balance
It is extremely important to be able to find the balance between creativity and organization.
Imagine two extremes: the first - when a person does an excellent job, but does not develop new ideas at all; and the second - when a person simply gushes with creative ideas, but at the same time is not able to perform the work that is entrusted to him. In both cases, the employee has no prospects for obtaining a high post.
Wait for the right time
If you are convinced that you meet the requirement of the boss, then it's time to go to him and start a conversation about your career. But do we need to break into the leadership's office and suddenly demand an increase? Of course not. This behavior can cause a negative reaction, and you will not see the increase as your own ears. Find out for yourself when your boss is more loyal and has a good mood.
And sometimes such a strategy of behavior can work: you are asking the chief to advise how you can improve your performance. Focus on the fact that you want to start working better. Such employees are always perceived by the manager positively, and perhaps he himself will offer you a higher position.
