A useless label?
The label "Made in Germany" used to be a proof that a product is good and reliable - it was originally introduced in the UK to mark foreign products more obviously. That time it was to protect UK products from imitations by other nations (especially Germany) that were imported to the UK. It was in the 20th century that Germany did successfully leverage the Made in Germany tag as a brand synonymous of product reliability and quality.
Do you buy products because of that tag?
Even Germany struggles with several scandals and an education that lacks a lot these days I am surprised the Products made in Germany still enjoy the highest reputation among consumers worldwide (according to Forbes and Statista). Germany's reputation as a producer of top-quality products did not suffer from the Volkswagen scandal and still has the highest score (100), beating Switzerland and Sweden.

A lot of good products are coming from Germany... It took reliable brand and performance that no single brand can destroy.
That VW recall ended up helping us. We got to drive the Jetta for free for a month, and the buyback was so large it funded our kitchen remodel. Even though VW messed up bigtime, they did it in a very crafty way! Hehe.
Glad to hear they did good for you. I was not aware of this though. Media did not report or it was only a side news not mentioned in a prominent way - have a nice day and enjoy your kitchen.
The thing is, "Made in Germany" is way to overused. Even on combs you can see it sometimes. A lot of companies based in Germany started to use planned obsolescence and thats the way to lose a little bit of its fame every day. - A German Guy
