Coca-Cola recently unveiled their new Diet Coke flavors to the world: Fiesty Cherry, Zesty Blood Orange, Twisted Mango, and Ginger Lime.
Along with the introduction of these new flavors they've also introduced a new look to their cans as well (see image above).
Looking For A Sugar Substitute...
The new marketing strategy of theirs is an attempt to try and turn around declining beverage sales.
Diet Coke is alleged to be the weakest link in the cola product lineup for Coca-Cola. Sales for diet soda have been declining for the last decade, as more consumers turn away from consuming beverages that contain controversial additives and preservatives.
More people these days are turning to water and functional beverages like energy drinks and sports drinks. Bottled water sales have been on the rise for the last several years and that is one of the fastest growing categories in the drink space.
People have made it clear, by spending their money elsewhere, that they don't find diet soda to be the healthy beverage option that they are looking for.
Coca-Cola also recently took their horribly performing Coke Zero out of the US market and they've replaced it with what they've called Coke Zero Sugar. The new Coke Zero Sugar is sweetened with the use of aspartame and acesulfame K.
As well, their new line-up of Diet Coke products are also sweetened with the use of the controversial sweetener acesulfame K (Ace-K), along with the usual aspartame.
Ace-K is roughly 200x sweeter than sugar and has been approved by the FDA. However, there are some critics who have said that you should be cautious about this artificial sweetener, despite the dozens of studies that might look like they support its safety.
For now, critics say that it's unknown for certain whether this ingredient is safe or dangerous. Previously, concerns have been raised by the US Center for Science in the Public Interest, but the European Food and Safety Authority along with the FDA have disregarded those claims.
Among the concerns for Ace-K are worries that this artificial sweetener might promote cancer, liver problems, and disturb the gut microbiome.
Despite the current approval from the FDA and the widespread use of this ingredient in the market today, critics still maintain that more research is still needed in order to better understand the potential long-term effects.

There is an act called Nutrition Labelling and education act. That act should be cascade down to more and more people so they can take action when they found such issues.
Exactly! People shoukd be aware
You can find the NLEA act on internet as well. Just Google it and you will find lots of good stuff about it.
Will do. Thank you!
These artificial sweeteners scare me, as much as these new Diet Coke flavours sound nice I don't think I could bring myself to try them. Thanks for sharing this information @doitvoluntarily :)
I have heard that people say Diet Coke is worse than reguLaw come because of all the arftifical sweeteners they have added . And it’s more harmful to our body
not just people ... scientist...
Has there Ever been a safe artificial ingredient?
I stopped drinking this months ago, i hate the taste now, I prefer water :)
But those first few months before you loose the taste for it are so painful!
Yeah i did crave some :)
Listen to Dr Rhonda Patrick talk about the dangers of diet sodas on the gut microbiome. Very interesting stuff
This sounds great to me @doitvoluntarily ! Im sure it tastes much better as well then what they are useing now ! either way its better then straight sugar , I would have t try it and see ! and resteemed👌✌👍😀
Aspartame does give me headaches. as a child I never knew why. as an adult I heard about it and cut it out. I rarely get headaches now :)
Upvoted and resteemed brother!
There is so much back and forth with what is good for you and not, I will just stick to the real stuff. It has been working for hundreds of years. tip!
Thanks for bringing this to the front line @doitvoluntarily ! Coca-Cola and Monsanto are two biggest evils among american multi national companies. Everyone should spend some time going through the crimes of this company at http://killercoke.org/, the evidence offered there is beyond some people's nightmare ideas. Thanks for awesome post!
Thanks for sharing @doitvoluntarily, I like the new look even though I don't drink soda pop, good info
I much prefer flavored seltzer waters to a diet soda these days, and always look for natural flavorings! Thanks for sharing.
I drink far too much of this stuff, It's more of an addiction I think, I find it very difficult to go a day without it and have had stomach problems for the last year, and have just been diagnosed with skin cancer - now wondering if it is linked. Thanks for a great post @doitvoluntarily
Skin cancer is more likely from Sun exposure. But I guess we don't know if these artificial sweeteners affect the bodies ability to remove toxins from the skin, or if bacteria is encouraged by the sweetner.
Actually you should generally do without sweeteners. After all, there are numerous studies that show that sweeteners have an extreme (negative) influence on the gut flora. This partially destroys whole strains of microbia that do not regenerate even after more than 3 months. In the end, no fiber-rich diet will help anymore. In extreme cases, a fecal transplantation is indicated.
Reading the label is a must these days and I don't mean just for new products. Make a habit of reading it even if you bought it in the past and it looks the same. Companies got wise to the 'new improved' label no longer fooling people and they change the ingredients without changing the label. Such additions are never good, always something the big pharma have a hand in and 'safe'
Nothing they do would shock me. They been using gmo bacteria shit for a sweetner for years and years.
Thanks for the info. I won't go near the stuff!! no worries here! Can is pretty though, I'll give them that! ;)
We need to be careful with artificial sweetners because we still don't know their long term harmful effects on human body.
The long term effects are obvious. It makes you "artificially sweet", which is a nice way of saying superficial.
I agree.
I have one solution to this issue whether it’s controversial or not. Don’t drink alcohol while driving and don’t drink Coke at all!
Resteemed!
There are people worried about all kinds of ingredients includes ones that are actually safe. So I wonder what the worries are based on really.
Still, even if Ace-K was 100% safe, soda is still an awful thing to be putting in your body and an awful thing to be spending your money on.
I agree with you. It damages our body slowly.
Soda Kills!
Thanks for sharing this informative news, @doitvoluntarily
i follow you..
thanks for the importent info.
Why would anyone still be drinking soda?!
I laid off the soda for about i dont know, 2 years? I'm dedicated to water now, having some soda on rare occasions but always prefer to have water near me all the time.
well, it tastes good. I know it's bad for me but I limit myself to one bottle of cocacola per week. Except on holidays
wow It's amaging sir. please tell me in detail. Bcz It my favourite one.
I can't even go near diet soda. If it's not regular soda, then what's the point, it's like decaffeinated coffee LOL. I'd rather just drink water. Great post!
yes, but which water? There are studies that show that in the USA, most cities have radium in their water at dangerously high levels. So you can go for water in plastic bottles, but then your ingesting plastic. You also have to worry about the PH of the water, which if too acidic or to base is doing you damage too.
You are so right to beware!
Drink shit and die!
:(
xox
Fresh water any day!
Thank you. Water is the best.
Indeed 💯🐒
Anytime I see a sugar substitute I get nervous! I believe that we should limit our sugar consumption and that these artificial sugars are much worse than regular cane sugar. I hope people continue to decrease the amount of sugary drinks they consume and opt for water instead! :D
That is why I stay away from all fizzy drinks especially Coca Cola if it can clean a dirty toilet bowl ...imagine the amount of damage it can do to you!
good post....thanks
Lol, I don't see the difference between Diet Coke and regular Coke. They both make me bloat. I take a bottle once in a while but that is it!
Aspartame, in diet coke, will make you go blind.
Wow.
You are having way too much fun with this post!
I'll have an ice cold can of cancer please.
Today I learned another sweetener ACE-K. :) I don't drink any types of soda. Thank you very much.
Coke is one of my wife's favourite drink. Perhap they should come up with a new type called coke healthy. Add benefit within the ingredients of coke rather than leaving coke as it is with little alternatives. Thanks for sharing this post about coke!

Thanks for information @doitvoluntarily
It is not known if the remedy is worse than the disease, says an old adage. Recently I saw a TV show where there was a fight in Mexico and the cocacola because the government wanted to impose taxes on the consumption of sugary drinks and it was a big fight in that country which is one of the most consumed in Mexico and therefore higher degree of obesity, especially in childrens, now they put these sweeteners that are even more dangerous, drink water is better. I am an ex-cocacola addict, I used to drink 2 liters a day and I was obese, thank God I could leave it, now I'm on my weight and I feel healthier
i enjoy your post ^^! Thanks.
good!.
happy today for you!
Hi @doitvoluntarily! You have received 0.1 SBD tip + 0.02 SBD @tipU from @dswigle :)
Check out new tipuvote! feature :)
wow coke without sugar
There's a lot of side effects drinking cola of any kind because of its high content of sugar. But still, so satisfying to drink. You got the best info from this post. Keep on steeming my friend! :)
Welp, I mostly live on drinking water anyways.
They probably can't use aspartame, because their customers are going blind, and can't find the stores to buy diet coke.
I currently have a career in market research. It is amazing to see first hand how societal trends drive consumer behavior.
If we all get smart about what we are eating, companies will put better things in our food.
Based upon my very frequent engagement with American consumers, I do not think that this product will be successful.
Better living through modern chemistry? I don't think so! At least, not in this case.
Once a person overcomes a sugar addiction, the adult body naturally only craves a small amount of "sweets".
I personally would rather drink a cola with natural sugar then any chemical additives.... although I haven't consumed a coke or pepsi in many years.
