The world around us is in constant flux. As new technology is developed or new scientific constructs are explored, our knowledge and 'what we thought we knew' also changes to match up with the facts. I was taught Pluto was a planet for example, but science and our understanding of planetary definitions declare Pluto not to be a planet. So as perception changes, inevitably people start to perceive things as different.
Targeting perception.
A simple question:
Quantity, or quality?
Inevitably, when two or more options are given, there will usually be a deviation. Some people prefer quality and are willing to pay more for products simply because they believe they are getting a product that is 'Superior'. At the same time, someone will come along that decides they will rather have 10 of a product rather than spending more for perceived quality.
So who is right? Simple answer; Both of them!
Perception is not a constant. It is an abstract idea, that people do not experience things in the same way. Well, there are more than 7 billion of us! Getting everybody to see things, in the same way, is impossible...
Perspective Economy.
Knowing certain things about a person's views gives you power. A smart entrepreneur can benefit by offering products or services that cater to a certain need. Seeing how perception is determined can help you stay ahead of the competition. Staying ahead of the competition that fails to see the shift in perspective is a clear advantage to any person.
I will not tell you what to think, but what is in the image?
Illusions are the proof that perception is relative. When anything is relative, there are things to learn and benefit from... For those smart enough to see!
Adapting to change
As mentioned, understanding how others think can be a powerful tool but what if you do not relate to their perception? There is nothing wrong with a disagreement. The skill comes in finding out how to play the situation to your advantage. Fot that, it is important to at least understand their point of view. The key to targeting perception is in understanding their point of view better than they do, then refuting it...
