Making guests feel comfortable is crucial to vacation rental success, and gestures are the perfect way to show guests that you care.
The key to guest satisfaction is to make them feel welcome in your vacation rental. To make your guests feel like your vacation rental is a home away from home, here are some nice gesture ideas from BookingTeam.com.
Welcome Baskets
When guests arrive, you want to make a good impression from the start. A welcome basket is a thoughtful gift that can help you do that. Plus, everyone loves free stuff.
You can get as creative as you want with what you put into the welcome baskets. It could include coupons and brochures to local attractions and businesses. It could be themed around the holiday or season. For instance, if it is around Halloween, you could fill it with candy. During winter months, you could include hot cocoa and candy canes.
Keep in mind the type of guest that is staying. Some hosts will include wine and chocolate, which is a safe but solid choice. You can put a spin on it by including a local drink and food. For instance, the wine could be from a local vineyard or instead of wine, it could be a few bottles of a locally brewed craft beer.
Goodie Bags
If you don’t have the budget to go all-out on a basket, goodie bags are a smaller, more inexpensive option. You can leave a few goodie bags around with handwritten notes. A bag of candies or a bag of sample size toiletries with a note that says, “We hope you enjoy your stay!” is an inexpensive yet thoughtful gesture.
Email or List of Fun Activities
Your booking confirmation emails can also be an opportunity to make a great impression on your guests. Instead of the standard confirmation, you can send another that personally thanks them for booking, tells them you are excited about their stay and offers useful information. This could be a list of “Fun Things to Do”, “Items to Pack”, “Best Places to Eat” or “Nearby Attractions to Visit”.
Providing them with information about the area shows that you care about their overall experience and are willing to put in a little extra effort.
Services for Guest Convenience and Comfort
Gestures should communicate to your guests that you value them. You want them to have the best experience possible. Convenience is part of making stays more comfortable and enjoyable, so look for ways to make the entire booking process easy and painless. One way that BookingTeam.com clients use is to offer luggage storage services like CityStasher and 24/7 key exchange services like CityCoPilot.
Friendliness and Communication
It may sound easy and obvious, but many hosts don’t realize how much communication affects guest satisfaction. Ask: How are you enjoying your stay? Is there anything you need? What can we do to improve your experience? These are simple questions but they make a positive impression on guests. It shows them that you are interested and care that they are having a positive experience.
You want to create the type of experience that not only leaves your guests satisfied, but one that they gush about in online reviews and highly recommend to peers and family back home. These easy-to-do gestures can give your vacation rentals a personal touch and increase guest satisfaction.

I Like the notion of sending a confirmation email that details 'Fun Things to Do', Good #Restaurants and such.
I know that hotels and B&B's often leave a SURVEY card regarding the individual's stay - which is good - but these are so plain looking, that I think they could call ATTENTION to it if it had an attractive picture on the survey card.
They could print these out with their computer printer - so I'd think there's no reason NOT to do it.
These establishments would have a better response.
As a customer we appreciate those effort, like the welcome basket and the gifts, however sometimes we think that its a part of what we have payed, so it doesn't count. Communication is vital, agree with it. Please pay attention to the following because, this is what we are always expecting. A warm welcome with a sweet smile from the host or staff. If that was the first thing we encounter, even without a gift we are satisfied and happy. Remember, first impression, is the last impression.

Can never go wrong with a welcome basket. Whether long-term or vacation rentals.
For my long-term rentals I always do a welcome basket for my new tenants and include some everyday items along with some cleaning products to promote keeping up the property

Very good post. Thanks
I love it when Airbnb host leave a welcome gift. In Japan I hadn't a host leave a bunch of Japanese snacks and small trinkets for us to take. In Portugal and france I had a nice but affordable bottle of wine. This will only cost you $4-5 dollars but it shows that you care and will get you some nice comments and reviews :) fingers crossed for a treat during my next stay
Good job friend
good post
Some of what you have mentioned are so simple and obvious, but few people realise the power of great client experience. Thank you for the reminder that we should all be doing more if we are in service.
Regarding your communication comment, I 100% agree. I travel a fair amount on business and whenever I arrive at the car rental place at a specific airport, the lady behind the desk comments that she's been waiting for me all day. I know that she probably says this to everyone, but I walk away with a smile and feeling special anyway.
I found Interesting..
A welcoming basket is such an intriguing idea...
