The privacy, comfort and cost savings of vacation rentals have made them a more attractive lodging option to travelers everywhere.
At BookingTeam.com, we work with vacation rental owners, as well as the most popular rental sites. These are some of the top trends we’ve noticed in the industry in 2017.
1. Overall vacation rental booking rates are increasing.
A growing number of travelers are choosing to book vacation rentals over hotels. Their popularity has been on the rise for several years now. A 2016 TripAdvisor survey reported that 67% of travelers intended to stay in a rental home, an increase from 59% in the year prior. The growing trend of booking vacation rentals over hotels will continue throughout 2017.
2. Guest experience expectations are higher.
Vacation rentals may have first grown in popularity because of their low cost, in comparison to hotels. However, as competition in the space grows, so does the pressure to create positive guest experiences for every stay.
More people are booking for the entire experience, not just the cost savings. They want the unique and personalized feeling that vacation rentals can offer, and property managers and owners will feel the pressure to meet those expectations.
3. Reviews are even more influential in booking decisions.
We live in a world where word-of-mouth is key. In the rental industry, word-of-mouth is in the form of online reviews. Every popular rental site, from TripAdvisor to Airbnb prioritizes listings that have a lot of high rating reviews.
Designing consistently positive guest experiences can do wonders for your property, but if you aren’t harnessing all of that feedback, you could be missing out on revenue-generating opportunities.
4. More guests will book longer stays.
Now that the digital economy has made it easier than ever to work from anywhere in the world, more people are traveling more often. They are also extending their stays in one place. Travelers aren’t just going on short vacations to view the tourist sites, but to be immersed in the local culture. To do that, more will look to rental homes that accommodate longer stays.
5. Unique experiences, amenities, and kitchens are growing in importance.
According to recent research, one of the top deciding factors for guests when booking a vacation rental is access to a full kitchen. Along with other amenities such as a pool, washer and dryer, hot tub, and more, the kitchen makes a rental feel more like home. Dining in can also offer significant cost savings and convenience to guests, making the kitchen a major selling point for properties.
6. Vacation rental managers are becoming a necessity.
A few years ago, it may have been considered a luxury to have a designated manager for your vacation rental properties. However, as the market grows and guest expectations rise, more property owners are hiring managers to help with their vacation properties.
Managers and owners alike are also looking to technology and platforms like BookingTeam.com to help ease the workload. BookingTeam.com provides property managers and owners with an on-demand team of booking professionals as well as the tools they need to manage their properties more efficiently and effectively.
I think reviews are the most important part. That is why I like the reputation part in Steemit and Swarm City
So these are the first 5 tips that come to my mind for Vacation rental property owners.... :) tell me what ya'll think....
While most people rent vacation homes in advance, some wait until the last minute. You can position yourself to scoop up those travellers by making a few adjustments to your marketing and rental procedures. Then, you will make more money, as you will be able to keep your calendar full throughout the year.
Is your vacation rental located near a golf course? If so, you should make the most out of your location. Include golf amenities in your home so renters will be more likely to stay with you. By including certain amenities, you will be able to keep a full rental calendar.
Vacation rental owners need to have the best listing possible. Part of providing a great listing is including a virtual tour. A virtual tour is a tour that is filmed and then put online so others can view it. There are many benefits to include.
If you are a vacation rental owner that wants to use a management agency, you need to be sure you pick the right one. There are lots of agencies available that are competing for your business. You need to narrow down the prospects by examining each company.
Bans prevent in some states and provinces, owners from renting their property to short-term guests. State and local governments, as well as home owners associations, can initiate vacation rental bans.
These bans are devastating to owners. However, they can be avoided. Those who follow a certain set of guidelines will form good relationships with the community, and thus be able to continue renting their property to guests.
Yeah , they're charing huge taxes and huge convenience charge but this should be change
I saw your blog and you there are no hidden charges in your fees.
Which is impressive

I would like to add that if our rental homes are near to transport facilities like Airport are added benefit.
Here in my location Hyderabad, India - one of the famous cities for IT Hubs and tourist attractions.
Many people prefer to rent a home from either near to Airport or near to green agriculture lands to stay calm and relax in nature. This the trend and the homes in that radar are hot cakes.
Even guests want to stay long but only provided with all your above points.
Excellent points you got covered here.
Yes, dynamic like those are good. In the U.S. if you have a home near a major university it makes for a great vacation rental with family and alumni coming to visit for sporting events and graduations.
Hey @bookingteam.com
Neither did I know about your website and nor I had any idea about the kind of services you guys provide.. If this post is to be believed then I must confess that I was missing something by not knowing about you... I shall definitely check the next time I look to book for a holiday.. Peace ✌️
Great Article. It just demonstrates how the internet has empowered the consumer! Ratings are now so important and everybody has a voice. Hopefully this will drive up standards across many industries and mean that poor customer service is a thing of the past.
My family had an awful experience whilst staying at a large hotel in a large theme park near Paris (rhymes with bisneyland!!). I wrote a scathing report on it and was amazed that it received over 10k views in a few weeks, and hopefully informed people before they spent their money.

You will be my top destination wheneverI want to book a holiday , thanks for sharing
great , thanks for sharing.
Then hotel industry brought this about due to high charges and limiting availability. Block bookings as well causes this. Very insightful and I agree with it. I unfortunately didn't try it as yet as I'm afraid it isn't always what it seems and hotels are just safer but I do plan on doing it in the near future.
we are always looking on airbnb for unique holiday rentals as we have dogs and like to take them on holiday with us too! great post

A good vacation for me is going to warm weather. Being able to go outside, in the sun, hit the beach, play sports. Being active outside. Going swimming, hanging by the pool, having a couple drinks, having a couple of your close buddies around, and just having a blast.

It is very interesting to see the tourism industry developing and destinations that were not so popular a few years back, are now packed with tourists from all over the world. This can only mean that destination that few are considering right now will be trending in the years to come and that can only be a great thing for 2 reasons:

@bookingteam You are hitting the nail right on the head because for me, my extended family, friends and many other people I know, vacation rentals is the way we have been going for years. Why rent a room when you can have the whole house? We just got back from Mexico and we stayed at the Casa Ysuri where we had the whole property for ourselves, made our own customized meals with our own personal chef. It was spot on!
hi,follow me
Great post. Thanks for sharing. resteemed!
Peace and happiness from Vietnam!
This is good economic news
Point number three is noticable not only in the vacation rental industry, but generally everywhere nowadays.
Ratings are everything: in such a developed world where competition between businesses for a customer is nothing less than fierce, the customer always has the last word. And the digital era gave us the opportunity to have a voice by rating our experiences.
Just look at it, the ratings are everywhere! Tripadvisor, Holidaycheck for hotels, Yelp for restaurants, even Google puts a one to five star rating scale near every establishment that is present on the Google maps.
If there are still businesses that are not taking online ratings seriously, they are making a huge costly mistake.
Great content! Thanks for the information @bookingteam.com!
Yes you are right. I recently had a survey on this.
Go to Wombats hostel in London if u wanna catch a disease
My sister lives in Italy and is a tour guide, I told her about steemit this week and she has joined us. She will have some very nice photos and videos from all of Italy.

Thats a good relief to travellers.
Love it
very informative. thanks
Even if review is very important, i think that most of people don't bother writing them, so i think the challenge is to find a way for the customers to rate their experiences with the minnimum effort so there will be a lot more reviews.
Thanks for sharing these trends, @bookingteam.com.
As a traveler, I definitely second that reviews are very influential in booking decisions!
But I'd like to add one thing, that I think may give some comfort to hotel and restaurant owners: not every review has to be positive! Not every customer is the same, and as a traveler I understand that. Some people just expect super high standards for a low price, and leave a bad review if they find one thing they don't like.
If you receive a such a bad review as a hotel or restaurant owner, it must be upsetting.
And you may want to tell that customer that he's full of it:
Don't...
One thing I can really appreciate it is when I see a hotel or restaurant owner reply to a bad review in a correct way. Let's say for example that a customer had to wait for one and a half hour to get his pizza. He's upset, and posts a negative review.
If I see that review, I'd probably think: "Hmm, maybe skip that restaurant."
But hey wait, there's a reply to that review. It's the restaurant owner, apologizing: "Hi [CUSTOMER], I'm very sorry for your bad experience with us. Yesterday was a public holiday, which meant we were understaffed. Moreover, one of our chefs was sick. That's why you had to wait longer than normal for your pizza. I'd very much like to invite you to come back to our restaurant, and I'll give you 50% discount on your pizza + FAST service."
Now when I read that, I'm impressed! And I'll definitely want to check out that restaurant.
It's all about how focused you are on providing excellent customer service!
