We need a block function!!!

in #bullying8 years ago

This is inspired by Laura Lemons post!!

I am absolutely sickened by the abuse shown in her post. While people are yelling to ignore the trolls and not give him attention, he is still obsessively attacking and stalking her. Ignoring an abuser isn't easy, his words still are seen, and it's not okay for someone to have to bare being called a liar everyday because she shared a traumatic experience.

Its asinine that this is happening, it's not a disagreement, it's not different opinions, it's someone forcing their delusions onto another person to push them over the edge. It's cyber bullying. Telling someone to end their life on a post about depression, is bullying and harassment. The best thing that can happen is for @ned and @dan to implement a blocking function that works! Ignoring people only can go so far.

I am posting this to get her more visual and for dan and ned to see the importance of this and that MULTIPLE users agree he is being abusive. I can only imagine what other users are facing because of harassment and stalking that is being welcomed here.

We need a blocking function YESTERDAY!!!!!

Sort:

"Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're in the right."

Says it all. Leave your doubleplusbad "abuse" & "make the world safe for women" newspeak for Facebook.

Gotta face the music here: free speech does not have to be nice or kind speech.

So stalking and constant negative/attacking comments is freedom of speech?

Just as they are free to say what they want we should have the freedom to ignore.

Lol sorry I dont support stalking and obsessive behaviors.

if this was about being offended I would agree but from what I have seem this has crossed sharing opinions into harassment and that is where we seem to disagree.

It also does not have to be offensive and uncouth. And while the primary feature of a computer system is to copy data, the secondary function is to filter it. We don't have to see it. The website interface forces you to, and when you mute someone, it actually basically highlights it by making it appear different rather than hiding it.

Have you noticed what happens when you 'mute' a user? it makes their posts more visible by making them different to the others. I have put forward a petition to have this feature actually hide the posts of these users. It should really cascade to the comments that follow them as well.

I want to make an interface that implements this feature. I dug up through looking at page source the location of the script involved. I first tried to find the scripts on the github for steemit.com. It does not contain the script so I can't even make a patch myself to be submitted.

The only option right now is if someone builds another interface that actually implements the function. Fortunately there is already now a python library for implementing all of the functions, the developer is now into the development of an alpha version of this.

I am beginning to write a python app that creates a native interface for the Gnome platform. Since there is sufficient implemented, python is the way to go for the shortest path to a resolution.

It is enough to simply block others. We do not need to enforce our opinions on other people. It would be a great addition, however, if when you follow someone, their upvotes, flags and mutes of other users were factored into your feed's prioritisation, so that if your friends block someone, automatically it pushes down these people to the bottom of the list and you are less likely to have a run in with them as well.

Please join me in this campaign, and promote this to your associates who agree with this. It is sorely needed, not now, 4 weeks ago it was already overdue, like you say. The implementation of the mute function is insulting to the very definition of the word. Mute means silent, not quieter. Quieter also can become more noticable.

I agree....even in FB there is black feature...if anyone posts racist, threatening or rude comments they are booted out and blocked....that is the authors freedom....there are people in Steemit who are NUTS....they are stalking and harassing people, and one guy calls people a "cunt" about every 5 minutes for weeks at a time to try to send a message for people to only write what he wants in the community....so quality writers either hang in there or walk from these cyber bullies who are really cowards. The hide behind fake screen names because they do this so much, to people it is actually a cyber crime....so yes, I support BLOCKING and Reporting feature as what FB has......until then, these people are hurting the community and Steemit could crash is not updated with this feature.

@dan @dantheman @ned @ramta @adamm @abuse

So have you found a way to block those " nut jobs " ?? I thought Steemit was gonna be the perfect platform ... now i'm angry we can't block stalkers .
