Learning to Craft

Hello Folks!

So how's life? I had been doing a lot of night shifts lately and as a result, I felt that I have neglected writing here.

Well, there is a lot of things going on with me that I do not even know where to begin saying anything.

Probably, I'll start by saying that for the past few weeks, I had been devotedly been honing my resin skills.

I believe that as a person- crafter- I do not even want to dare to say that I am an artist, I have to evolve. I have always been into this journey of getting better and better- so here is one of the things that I wanted to do- make things with resin.

Resin compared to polymer clay is very dangerous as a liquid resin can be toxic to the skin, its fumes can irritate the eyes, nose, mouth and, its another ball game. For years, I tried to elude this medium not just because its very rare and expensive but because I do not know how to handle its properties well.

When I moved in to Australia, I realized that the only way I could nurture my passion for resin crafting is to subscribe with Sophie and Toffee.

I have a monthly subscription with them but, I rarely post them as most of my post are clay based.

Well, that changed a few weeks ago when I do not have anything else to go but just take pictures of my fast foods.

To start with, I have a clean mold and a UV red resin.

I filled in the mold and cured it outdoors- under the sun.
When I do resin crafting, I prefer to do it outdoors- in out porch or patio just cause I do not want to inhale the fumes. also, I use the sun as my UV light instead of using my lamps to cure my resin.

Here is how it looks like. If you guys can see, the resin does not just automatically settle in where its supposed to settle in. There are air bubbles/ pockets.

Here is the finished fries holder.

This is how the set up works. Me curing the resin under the sun.

So the following pictures is just me putting on some resin on various molds. I did not want to "add" my own flaire to make things realistic. I am just on the basic level here. If it looks artificial or fake, well, that's what they provided me and that is what I am using.

Some of the subscriptions were made by parents for their kids as young as 11 or 12 so, they probably are not as creative as some of the older people are.

So here is one demolding picture. I do know that at the top there is one where I demolded a cup.

Here are the cup molds.

So they provided me with stickers to put on various things that I made.

So I got somethings that looked like this.

Yeah, I tried blending red and yellow to get an orange color unfortunately, I failed.
