Brother Eli said it well. The function of the military is to protect life and property. And so, anything or anybody that aims at eliminating life, it is the duty of the military to do what it can to stop it.
It is important to note that Jesus admonished the soldiers in the gospel of Luke not to go about doing violence to people or extorting money from people. So, the military is an approved profession by God's standard.
