Patrick O’Flynn of the Social Democratic Party is, at least in my view, one of the more erudite and thoughtful commentators out there. He’s recently put up a post on X that highlights the dire state that Britain is now in.
Mr O'Flynn said:
We've moved from a "nothing works properly" society to an "everything has gone to total sh1t" society in Starmer's first six months. The good news is that Lab's failure is opening up ground for solutions that can work but were previously judged too drastic by the timid Tories.*
He’s right about how far the nation, its cohesiveness, its energy security and its economy has rapidly declined since Labour took office in July 2024. He’s also correct that the ‘nothing works’ society was because the Tories when they were in government were too timid to deal with obvious and worsening economic, social and border control problems. The question that Mr O’Flynn’s words raises for me is will the Tories learn not to be so bloody timid or will something else, another party for example, do what needs to be done to get the country back on track without the cringeworthy timidity of the Tories?
