Richard Commey VS. Raymundo Beltran
Richard Commey VS. Raymundo Beltran
The main event of the night, saw Richard Commey 28-2 25KOs face-off against former world champ Raymundo Beltran 36-8-1 22KOs for the what was supposed to be an IBF lightweight world title fight, but Beltran's unprofessional failure to make weight, meant that he was ineligible to challenge for the title.
Commey, looking to make a statement, started fast, just 1 minute and 8 seconds into the very first round he landed a short left hook, overhand right combination that sent Beltran on the seat of his pants. Beltran rose fast and looked to be unhurt and unfazed, but Commey instantly jumped on Beltran pushing him to the ropes and landing a flurry of punches. The referee stepped in and stopped the action as the ropes appeared to be the only thing holding Beltran upright, giving him the mandatory standing 8 count. This fight already had more action in the first round than a lot of fights have in 12 rounds.
Beltran showing the grit that he is famous for, came back strong and even took one or two rounds, but father time catches up with everybody, and it appears that the former champ just can't hang with the younger guys anymore. The further the fight progressed, Commey seemed to become evermore dominant, until he finally ended a very exciting fight in the eighth round, with a huge swinging left hook.
Its time for Beltran to hang up his gloves before he gets hurt, being an old man in a young mans sport. He was a great fighter and Champion and has had a career that he can be proud of.
