On new years morning my oldest daughter and I went out to Beacon Rock for a First Day Hike, an initiative from the US parks dept to get out and hike on the first day of the new year. As we left town for the drive to Beacon Rock there was a rainbow.
Beacon Rock
Well, the other day I took my youngest out to hike up the 800+ foot high rock.
We made it to the top despite the rain and wind.
The story I'm telling today brings those two hikes that took place a month and a half apart, together.
I have mentioned that I like to hide 1oz copper rounds around for others to find. I like to leave crypto themed rounds in the hopes that it inspires someone to learn about cryptocurrency but, beyond that, I like to think of someone finding a cool copper coin on a hike.
So on the new years hike I left a Litecoin copper round like the one above at the beginning of the trail next to a little information keyosk. I don't have a picture but believe me, it was there.
Well, when I returned in February with my 9 year old daughter the Litecoin round was still there! I was shocked to see it so I picked it up to see how it looked, it had started to oxidize a bit and was looking kinda cool so I put it in my pocket. :)
When the little one and I stopped about 3/4 of the way up the trail for some water I saw a nice little spot to toss the copper for someone to find but looking at the is picture I seem to have tossed it into to good of a hiding place.
Can you find it? First to find it WINS!
Can you see it?

Beautiful photos, @summertooth.... that is a great capture of the rainbow! And my, that is a huge boulder! Growing up, I always enjoyed hiking with my parents. I am sure your daughter will have fond memories of your hike.
Have a wonderful Sunday, my friend @summertooth, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Thanks Saver. It has been three New Year's Day hikes in a row for me and the oldest and I cherish each one. The little one is the only other person to accompany me to the top and that was just a couple of weeks ago. Nice to hear you keep memories of hiking with your parents. My folks were the opposite of outdoorsy people so I just played sports growing up :/

It was great! Thanks @irisworld.
Yeow what a BOULDER! and wow what a climb up! Must of been
so amazing to be up on top looking around @summertooth!
I'm still looking for the coin lol, thought it might be under the
boulder there, but that looks like a dry leaf. What a very cool thing
to do, wonder when someone will find your coins! :-)
I really like your daughters coat of hearts, very beautiful!
Those stairs look astounding straight down shot there, was it
hard walking down? looks kinda slippery.
Ok looked again for the coin, mid right below the rock by a
green leaf it looks like it on it's side?
Thanks @shasta, it is an amazing place. It is a basalt volcanic plug over 800 feet high. There are 51 switchbacks on the trail but it is not as difficult as it sounds. It was raining (usually is there as it is located directly in the Cascade Mountain range. Here is the Wikipedia page about the rock which has some very interesting history.

I think you got the coin were you saying here?
So you win!! Thanks for checking in my friend.
Oh my goodness! thank you so much 🌄 @summertooth!! :-)
Great camo there with the fir needles and leaves!
Is there any petroglyphs around the area?
Hope all is well your way!
Beacon Rock State Park
Beacon Rock State Park is a geologic preserve and public recreation area on Route 14 in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in Skamania County, Washington, United States. The park takes its name from Beacon Rock, an 848-foot (258 m) basalt volcanic plug on the north shore of the Columbia River 32 miles (51 km) east of Vancouver. On October 31, 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived here and first measured tides on the river, indicating that they were nearing the ocean.
